🌠We are thrilled to share the news

Adrian Sauer receives the SPECTRUM International Prize for Photography 2023🌠

The whole team at Klemm's congratulates the artist for the award!
-
From the jury statement:

"Standing in the tradition of image-analytical photography, he has at the same time consistently extended this to intermedial forms of art and in doing so – perhaps surprisingly – has above all carried the long-discussed relationship between painting and photography into the present artistic debates. It is therefore no coincidence that Sauer is perceived as one of the most distinguished representatives in the context of contemporary abstract art."

The internationally renowned SPECTRUM Prize is endowed with € 15,000. Adrian Sauer will also be honored with a major exhibition of his work at the Sprengel Museum Hannover and an artist book.

Sauer's work will be presented to the public for the first time on this scale. The award ceremony will take place during the opening of the exhibition on 13 October 2023.

The SPECTRUM International Prize for Photography has been awarded to outstanding contemporary photographic artists since 1994. Among others, Zanele Muholi (2021), Fiona Tan (2019), Helen Levitt (2008), John Baldessari (1999) and Thomas Struth (1997) have been awarded.

“(...) When Jaeger talks about the “body in space” it is obvious the topic is sensitively layered. Every formal decision in her work seems to also be an emotive and metaphorical one. The title of the show, ‘itself and else,’ alludes to this complicated relationship between a being and its environment. It is a relationship Jaeger has spent a long time negotiating. (...)”

‘LO(L) – Embodied Language’ a group exhibition currently on view at the Kunsthaus Hamburg with works by Émilie Pitoiset 🖤

“Those who want to understand the present, must learn its language. Considering the changes within the media landscape and the complex challenges posed by an increasingly globalized world, it becomes clear that our well-familiar vocabulary no longer adequately describes given realities. (...)”

Book release | Viktoria Binschtok | Connection | MAR 27, 2022 | 11 AM to 2 PM @ Klemm’s 👀🌞

We are delighted to invite you to join us on Sunday MAR 27 for the release of Viktoria Binschtok’s monograph ‘Connection’ 💜

Bringing together her series Three People on the Phone (2004) and Cluster / Networked Images / Endless Cluster (2014 - 2022) the book comes out parallel to Binschtok's eponymous solo exhibition at the Oldenburger Kunstverein. You can take a video tour of the exhibition via the link at our bio.

The artist will be present and her book will be available for purchase at the release price of EUR 38.-

"(...) That’s what I find exciting about photography: it seems so easy to decipher and at the same time offers countless possible readings. This pliability in all directions is known in theory. Yet images evoke all kinds of emotional states in us."

Thank you for coming to the opening of ‘itself and else’ last Saturday 🖤

The solo exhibition by Elizabeth Jaeger runs until APR 23, 2022👀

“The work of Elizabeth Jaeger explores the perceptual and psychological implications of sculptural space, engaging the unconscious processes of the imaginary through enigmatic objects whose uncanny presence re-calibrates both their surrounding environment, and the conditions of their viewing. In her exhibition ‘Itself and Else’, seven large blackened steel rectangles hang on two walls of the gallery in a spaced-out sequence of vertical planes low to the ground, their width progressively increasing in subtle increments. A taxonomy of black clay vessels and bowls of varying sizes hang, float, or rest on thin shelves or step-like forms attached to the surface of each, in compositional sequences resembling interior psychic diagrams, or the flow of musical notes across a score. Elizabeth Jaeger’s second solo exhibition at Klemm’s will open on MAR 12. 2022 from 6 to 9 PM👀🔓

We are looking forward to seeing you!

“(...) Elizabeth Jaeger’s new solo show creates a meditative space that uses dark matter as starting point of an intimate observation. The walls are inhabited by anthropomorphic black ceramic vessels, placed on steel structures in a game of precarious and surreal balances. The diffuse emotionality radiated by these monolith-like beings is consciously broken by the hardness and severity of the material. Floating objects as vessels for the soul, heavy in the fragility of their existence. (...)”

“Klemm's is pleased to present ‘itself and else’, the second solo exhibition by Elizabeth Jaeger at the gallery.
With her objects and sculptures, Elizabeth Jaeger succeeds in exploring the relationship between corporeality and perception, between consciousness and emotion. Often engaging with the insights of a personal experience or the observation of a situation, her works create environments that are mildly surreal and focus on the interconnectedness of all living beings.
