The Female Filmmakers Film Festival Berlin is a new annual five day film event featuring screenings of international and local short and feature film productions of all genres. The Female Filmmakers Film Festival Berlin (FFFB) was created to support up and coming female talents from different ethnic backgrounds and nationalities, who have a unique story to tell. "MEAN GODDESS'S SPIT" by Lea Simon (Germany 🇩🇪), is a bold, provocative and unapologetic short film that turns visual expression into an act of resistance. Playing with bodies, fashion and ritual, "Mean Goddess's Spit" confronts patriarchal expectations head-on and delivers its message without compromise.

Lea Simon is an anti-disciplinary creative director whose work moves freely across art, culture, fashion and visual storytelling. Rejecting conventional boundaries, she brings together contrasting worlds to create work that challenges familiar ideas of beauty and expression.

Who gets to call the land their own and what might change if more people had the chance to do so? 🌱

"THE LAND THAT HOLDS US (UK) by Holly Black, follows four women building lives in small-scale organic farming across the Sussex Weald and rural Mid-Wales.

Through intimate conversations and beautifully observed moments from their working market gardens, the documentary explores their relationships with land, labour and community while revealing the realities behind romanticised visions of rural life. 🌿

Holly Black and Jo Barker are documentary directors and co-founders of "Black Bark Films", a female-led production company creating socially conscious films through collaborative and inclusive filmmaking practices. Their work has screened at festivals and cultural venues internationally.

What happens when you’ve finally had enough and decide to fight back? 🔥

"WOULD YOU BE DEAD BY NOW?" by Emelie Aylin Paylar (Germany 🇩🇪), follows newly famous country-techno icon "Wild Ryda", who is thrilled to be invited onto her favourite show, "Real Talk". But live on air, things take a turn she never expected.

When Wild Ryda stands up for herself, she ignites a chain reaction of anger, resistance and self-empowerment. "Would You Be Dead By Now?" transforms everyday gender-based oppression into a bold feminist fantasy of fighting back.

Emelie Aylin Paylar is a filmmaker from Stuttgart studying scenic directing at the "Film Academy Baden-Württemberg". Her work is feminist, direct and unfiltered, exploring power structures, bodies and identity. Since 2025, she has also performed as rapper "Mausi G", expanding her creative practice beyond cinema into music and performance.

Can beauty become a path towards freedom rather than an expectation we have to fulfil? 🤔

"VENERE LIBERATA" by Ludovica Sacchi (Italy 🇮🇹), takes us into an opulent chamber where a woman undergoes a ritualistic transformation into Botticelli’s Venus.

Drawing on Baroque and Renaissance imagery, the film explores the complicated relationship between beauty, identity, expectation and self-worth. Through meticulous ritual and performance, the protagonist’s transformation becomes more than an aesthetic act, it becomes an intimate moment of self-definition and liberation.

Ludovica Sacchi has a multidisciplinary background spanning ballet, drama, music and filmmaking. Sacchi brings these different artistic influences into her cinematic work. "Venere Liberata" marks her first cinematic expression, combining her love of classical art with a deeply personal exploration of identity and self-worth.

What if facing your greatest loss meant finally looking the lion in the eye? 🦁

"THE LION" by Abigail Zealey Bess (USA 🇺🇸), is a surreal dark comedy starring iconic actress Judith Roberts, known for David Lynch’s "Eraserhead" and Lynne Ramsay’s "You Were Never Really Here".

Katherine wins a Make-A-Wish contest. Her wish? To pet the lion at the zoo. What follows is an unexpected and cathartic adventure combining live action and stop-motion animation, where objects, photographs, dioramas and a tiny toy theatre come vividly to life.

Playful, strange and deeply personal, "The Lion" is ultimately a story about loss, confronting what frightens us and the healing power of telling our own stories. 💜

Abigail Zealey Bess is an award-winning filmmaker, theatre director and educator with more than 35 years of experience across film and theatre. Bess heads "Weird Sisters", developing film and theatre projects with a particular commitment to championing women artists and writers. She also teaches in the Graduate Film Program at NYU Tisch and at Columbia University. 👏

How far will we go to protect the safe spaces we create while living with grief? ☀️

"SONSHINE" by Kaleb D’Aguilar (Jamaica 🇯🇲), follows a grieving mother who refuses to leave her home and becomes consumed by concern for her son’s wellbeing.

An intimate and tense exploration of grief, motherhood, isolation and the instinct to protect what we love.

Kaleb D’Aguilar is an award-winning Jamaican writer and director based between Jamaica and London. A recipient of "Commonwealth Shorts: Caribbean Voices", he holds an MA in Directing from Goldsmiths, University of London.

His film and video work has been presented at the V&A, Migration Museum and National Gallery of Jamaica, as well as international film festivals. His storytelling explores Blackness, Caribbeanness, gender, sexuality, migration, family bonds and intersectional identities.

"FULLMOONBABY" by Sara Blomqvist (Sweden 🇸🇪), follows Monica and Tomas, a married couple whose relationship has lost its spark. Without telling each other, both begin searching for love online, only for their anonymous profiles to unexpectedly match. 💬

A warm and playful story about love, disconnection and rediscovering someone you thought you already knew.

Sara Blomqvist is a Swedish writer, director and producer working across fiction and documentary. For more than 15 years, she has created character-driven stories for film, television and international organisations including UNICEF. Her short "Familjerådgivningen" received the "Swedish Publishing Prize in 2019". 🏆
