Wentrup Gallery

Wentrup Gallery Founded in 2004, Wentrup is a contemporary art gallery representing emerging & established international artists | 95 Knesebeckstraße, Berlin
(1)

WENTRUP was founded in 2004. A former stable in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg was the gallery’s first home. Conceived by Jan Wentrup as a space that reacted to the young, diverse, and international art scene of Berlin, for many artists of the gallery’s early days it became their first commercial platform. Tina Wentrup joined in 2006 with her experience and expertise in contemporary theatre and dance from Paris and Berlin. Since then the gallery opened up toward more performative and non-object related art practices. Over time WENTRUP carefully broadened its portfolio, which includes artist of older generations who were influential precursors to current art practices while still producing work that is closely connected to the contemporary zeitgeist. WENTRUP’s portfolio now comprises 14 artistic positions that redefine and expand definitions of painting and sculpture, photography, film, and video and find solutions across genres that are both intellectually exciting and aesthetically appealing. Since 2009, the gallery has been located in a former couture factory building from the 1950s at the northwest end of Kreuzberg, in close proximity to Potsdamer Platz and Neue Nationalgalerie.

Vielen Dank an Wentrup Gallery.

Mariechen Danz is part of the exhibition "Body in Pieces" at Kai10 Art Collection in Düsseldorf from 22 February – May 12, 2019.

The other participating artists are Monica Bonvincini, Leda Bourgogne, Nadira Husain, Jens Pecho, Lili Reynaud-Dewar, Ryan Trecartin.

The exhibition is curated by Julia Höner.

In the works of the seven international artists of the exhibition, the human body repeatedly appears in fragmented form. One of the most pressing issues today concerning the technological, social and ethical conditions of the human is the perceived loss of physical wholeness. For it is the body where some of the central contradictions of our present time manifest themselves; as a fabric deeply interwoven with external interests, its boundaries have become porous, both in a literal and an emblematic sense. At the same time, the body still represents the fascinating organic basis of our wishes and desires.

Mariechen Danz and Louisa Clement are part of the exhibition « Hauptsache Kopf » from 26 January until 19 May 2019 in the Kunsthalle Emden.
No other part of the body was so often elevated to the subject of the picture as the human head. The exhibition places around 150 works from classical modernism to contemporary art in a diverse and stimulating dialogue.

Last night opened Karl Haendel‘s solo exhibition at Mitchell Innes & Nash in New York. While Karl Haendel’s newest work covers a wide range of subject matter from a stack of lawnmowers to a portrait of Barbara Walters, the common thread that links these disparate images is a dialogue between memory, both personal and collective, and national identity.

Louisa Clement’s new book « Remote Control » is out now.

Photography from abstraction to figuration

The photographs, videos, installations, sculptures, and new VR works by Louisa Clement (*1987) deal with phenomena related to a sense of disturbance in times of political and social insecurity. Clement’s investigations prove to be as seductive as they are cryptic: What is a human being in a digital age in which the body’s integrity is increasingly questioned through vehement medical and technological interventions? In an almost surreal manner, Clement’s detailed photographs conjure up a new image of the body that also represents the ambivalent vision of a “new human being.” With the help of her photographs, taken with smartphone cameras, she examines not only the medium’s ability to reproduce images, but also the reality of the technologically modified human. This publication is a companion to Louisa Clement’s museum exhibitions at Sprengel Museum in Hanover, Germany and Ludwig Forum in Aachen, Germany.

http://en.artmediaagency.com/121177/hicham-berrada-or-the-world-of-potentials/ Check out Hicham Berrada's interview on Art Media Agency. Hicham Berrada is a “chemical-reaction manager” who explores scientific protocols. Through his revisited Land Art, Hicham Berrada mingles with living things, but often on a molecular scale. An artist with a yen for chemistry, he reinvents a number of natural processes to create highly original landscapes. Situated somewhere between nature and artifice… Have you ever seen a field of dandelions releasing white haloes in the middle of the night? Or a blue cloud forming in a matter of seconds, like a turbulent sky painted by eighteenth-century French artist François Boucher? Or else timeless landscapes materialising from fragile aquatic gardens, or abstract galaxies being born before your eyes? What, you might ask, is the key to this magic? Yet Hicham Berrada is not a magician but a virtuoso in physics experiments. An alchemist-artist, he orchestrates chemical combinations in the way that a painter will play with the colours on his palette. In his studio, there are no canvases but little boxes stacked up on top of one another. Waiting to be activated to express their magic and to unfurl dreamlike landscapes. #interview #hichamberrada #wentrupgallery
On the occasion of the launch event of the new art initiative, S.M.S - Sh*t Must Stop - Munich, Gregor Hildebrandt did his first performance “The Eroski Show”. The artist needed nothing more than a drying rack, about 25 packs of scented Eroski handkerchiefs, 150 clothespins, 2 fans and 3 students from his Academy class to stage his expressive performance. #gregorhilderbrandt @grzegorzkiproduction #performance
