New International Performing Arts Institute The Place Where Professional Creative Leaders Rise Learn More: https://www.nipai.org/about

NIPAI is a private educational institute established in 2000 with the mission of exploring and bringing to life new, innovative, and professional forms of contemporary performance-making. It was founded on the Knowledge Applicability Concept, emphasizing that all acquired knowledge should be applied directly to the performance-making process. This approach integrates best practices, allowing perfo

rmance makers and actors to achieve more valuable results in less time than traditional theoretical study, making it more efficient than most other directing or acting schools worldwide.

NIPAI offers specialized educational programs that equip current and future directors, movement directors, acting coaches, choreographers, arts managers, and creative leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve success in their careers and positively impact the modern performing arts industry. Our programs are specifically designed for artists and creative individuals who have completed full-time training but realize they are not fully prepared to compete for work opportunities in the industry. The New International Performing Arts Institute teaches specific skills in directing, teaching, and managing that are practical and should be applied in everyday professional work.

For theatre, September is the start of the season: the cast comes together, the first rehearsal is called, plans turn into a schedule. In this profession you learn alongside the work, not before it.

NIPAI has been working since 2000, and the groups here have always brought together practitioners from different countries and different theatre traditions. That was the real test of the method: what works only inside one tradition does not travel into another.

The Ostrenko Brothers Method is built on physical action, movement score and ensemble work - on what can be broken down, repeated and explained to a performer. A method has to work in the rehearsal room, not only in the classroom.

To everyone who keeps learning in the middle of a season - happy Knowledge Day.

From 1 October 2026, tuition changes across all NIPAI programmes. Applications submitted before 30 September are processed at the current fee.

The programmes have changed since these fees were set: methodology and assignments reworked in several of them, and a larger teaching team - practitioners currently working internationally as directors, movement directors and choreographers, now involved in tutoring and feedback.

If you are choosing between formats, the useful question is not how much time you have but how defined your goal is.

Three weeks works when there is one specific task you want examined.

Three months is enough to build a working method in a single area - play analysis, blocking, ensemble work, screen acting.

The 12-month Certificate is for practitioners moving into directing who need the whole route from text to rehearsal.

The 18-month Diplomas are for those already working who want their own method in a form they can repeat and teach.

The international workshops follow a different logic: several days in a studio in Europe, in person, working physically alongside other practitioners. The next ones take place in January 2027.

One thing that is not in the fee list: where the schedule allows, we look for a way for distance students to join an in-class session without an additional participation fee. Ensemble work, blocking, play analysis - we would rather our students see them from inside a working studio.

If you are not sure where your practice sits, send your CV and a few lines about what you are working on now. We will tell you which programme fits, and say so if none of them does at this point.

Full details of the new fees are on our website.

From 17-21 August, NIPAI’s international Acting in Physical Theatre workshop took place in Berlin.

26 participants came to work together from Australia, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, the UK and the USA.

Directors, actors, dancers, choreographers, circus artists - different disciplines, different cultures, different professional experiences, all in one working space.

And this diversity was part of the work itself.

During five intensive days, we moved from training to performance, worked through different methods and approaches, tested ideas, created, observed and learned from each other.

There is never one single result after a workshop like this. Someone leaves with a new method. Someone with an idea for a future production. Someone with a different understanding of their own practice. Someone with new people they may work with again.

For more than 26 years, this is what we have been trying to build at NIPAI: multidisciplinary and multicultural spaces where artists meet, learn through doing and create together.

We believe that art is one of the few things that can genuinely change the world around us. And we are happy to be a small part of that process.

Thank you to everyone who found the time and possibility to come to Berlin, to work seriously, to share your experience and to contribute to these five days.

Thank you for your part in the common work we are all doing - creating art.

See you with the next group.

You direct. You have instinct and experience. What you want now is a consistent method - one that works across different material, different companies, different production conditions. The 18-month Theatre Directing: Advanced Diploma Programme is built around that specific gap.

24/07/2026

NIPAI was founded at a moment when contemporary performance-making was changing faster than most educational institutions could respond. It was built not to describe that change, but to be at the centre of it.

22/07/2026

Most people who come to NIPAI are already working. They direct, they move, they perform - and they have reached a point where instinct is not enough. They want a method.

19/07/2026

NIPAI runs advanced programmes for theatre directors, movement directors, and performers who are serious about developing their practice.

Each programme is built around one principle: the method has to work in the rehearsal room, not just in a lecture.
