Speculations on the (im)possible futures of a learning space

‚At present and also in the medium term future,
we will solve the problems of space (and also
other problems) only with a collegial attitude
and in a trusting atmosphere. ‚

How does authority
affect oneself?
How can bodies
in space be controlled?
How are people
assigned to space?
How can one
move others through the space?
How can you imagine the space ?
How can you deal with space
as a resource?
How do we speculate on space?

Under current circumstances, the Kunsthalle
presents the Opera in multiple acts To solve urgent room problems Speculations on the
(possible) futures of learning spaces introducing
multitrack perspectives on spatial concepts,
space solutions, use of space, space design, and
modes of instructing. Multiple „audio entrances“
to the space of Kunsthalle are offered.

We invite you to experience speculations on
the future of school spaces.
Feel free to shape it, open it up with your own
imagination.

Artists at Risk

Some pictures with Spartak Khachanov (Спартак Хачанов), who made it to Berlin for the opening of his group exhibition and an artist talk at Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz.

"Pen*s Parade", his artwork, almost did not make it, as previously mentioned. The full work arrived only a day after the opening, as it was held hostage by the Kiev Academy of Fine Art (NOAMA). It was only released under pressure from Artists at Risk, Oksana Chelysheva and the renowned Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki.

"Pen*s Parade", Khachanov's artistic mockery of militarism was only just finished when it caused a tidal wave of unforseen reactions: laughter, outrage, general disruption and ... the persecution of the artist and suppression of his work by ultra-nationalist forces in Kiev.

It started with threats from a certain professor at the Kiev Academy NOAMA, and built up into a highly dangerous witch-hunt of Khachanov by the feared Ukrainian fascist group "S14" (C14 in Cyrillic). As a result, Khachanov was forced to flee Ukraine.

Spartak is currently an Artists at Risk (AR) Resident at AR-Safe Haven Helsinki curated by Perpetuum Mobile - PM and co-hosted by Artists at Risk and HIAP - Helsinki International Artist Programme. AR-Safe Haven Helsinki is funded by the City of Helsinki.

Exhibition: What is it worth living for

Marked by the 68 movement - a critical reflection starting from young Art student Holger Meins

‚What is worth living for‘ is a view on historic and contemporary concepts on living and working. The questions on resistance, conflict, terrorism, radicalization, state and police power are nowadays to discover newly. How do artistic and political concepts mesh together? How are forms of physical power interlocked with a power of depiction? What is worth living for?

A cooperation of the ‘img - Institut für Mediengestaltung’ of the Hochschule Mainz, the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, in collaboration with Gerd Conradt and Hartmut Jahn.

This is the Open Call for participants of “Misplaced Women?” 3-day-long performance art workshop in the public space with Tanja Ostojić, January 22-24 2018, hosted by Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz in Berlin, Germany: Participants of all backgrounds and levels of experience that can commit to be present for the entire duration of the workshop are welcome including the students of the Kunstakademie Berlin Weissensee, but we particularly encourage those who are interested in issues of migration, representations of gender and art in the public realm. Participants are invited and encouraged to share and exchange about experiences and issues of migration, displacement, exposure and privilege and to enact the "Misplaced Women?”. The workshop is free of charge, and tea/coffee will be provided, but due to limited numbers we ask participants to apply. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, December 20 2017. Outcomes will be presented to the public at the end of the third day of the workshop at the Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz and included on the Misplaced Women? project website This workshop is a part of the program 'Body in the City' – a series of inquiries between the borders of public and private spaces in relation to the body and its temporalities, initiated by Sajan Mani. Please spread the word to potentially interested people. Reed about the project and see more workshop and application relevant details under the following link:
