Berlin Art Week is a festival week and major collaboration between important institutions in the Berlin art world. Once a year, we present a diverse programme with over 100 partners ranging from museums to exhibition houses, fairs, private collections, project spaces, and numerous Berlin galleries. Our partners open their doors together and invite the public to discover something new and to immers

e themselves in ongoing developments in the world of contemporary art. Art experts and art lovers from Berlin, Germany, and around the world are invited to exhibitions, performances, screenings, and an extensive festival week programme. Berlin Art Week is a project of Kulturprojekte Berlin. It is made possible with the support of the Senate Department for Culture and Community, the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises and the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE). On Saturday 12 SEP, 6—10pm, private collections once again open their doors to the public as part of Berlin Art Week. These participating collectors invite you to explore their individual approaches to collecting and share personal perspectives on contemporary art:

September offers a sense of return and renewal, when summer is not quite over and autumn is yet to begin.
Playing on this expectant feeling, the latest issue of frieze looks at the ways artists transform what is discarded into new works, ideas and formats.

Emily LaBarge profiles Liz Larner’s practice of repurposing refuse, Kari Rittenbach investigates the obsolete technologies Nandi Loaf reformats and Ahmad Azizy follows the trail of military trash to uncover the legacies of American wars.
Elsewhere, Lubna Chowdhary discusses inherited traditions in her sculptural practice, while Sasha Frere-Jones profiles cover artist JJJJJerome Ellis, whose ›transformative gentleness‹ offers a ›calm rebuke‹ to the world.

The features section further develops this theme of renewal, from Louis Fratino’s reflections on British modernism and our dossier on emerging galleries in Seoul, to Cassie Packard’s exploration of a new generation of artists contemplating our connection to the cosmos. Together, these pieces capture the September feeling and the sense of having arrived at a threshold.

During Berlin Art Week 2026, Hannah Hallermann (Hannah Hallermann (HAHA)) presents ›Sewing‹, her solo exhibition at Miettinen Collection. The project also launches an initiative to raise 100,000 Euro for women’s shelters in Berlin: 200 arrows are transformed into unique editions and offered for sale. In our questionnaire, she speaks about archery, uncertainty, and shares what currently drives her: finding creative responses to an atmosphere of violence without reproducing it.

Freedom of art and science cannot be taken for granted—it requires open societies, the rule of law, and strong, transformative institutions. This is what the campaign ›Vorsicht Demokratie!‹ (›Caution: Democracy!‹) stands for, which launched at Berlin Art Week 2025 with its first posters, institutional partners, and a kick-off event in Berlin.

This year, just in time for the 15th anniversary edition of Berlin Art Week, further artists and institutions are joining the campaign.

On the occasion of Berlin Art Week, Neue Nationalgalerie presents the fifth edition of its performance art festival Perform!. At the heart of this year’s programme is Trisha Brown’s ›Walking on the Wall‹ (1971), a seminal work of the American Judson Dance movement, presented on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States. Further performances by Kianí Del Valle, Josh Johnson, Miriam Kongstad, and Deva Schubert offer a range of perspectives on contemporary approaches to performance.

The Berlin Art Week Garden programme is live 🌱For its 15th anniversary, the Berlin Art Week Garten will be hosted at the Kulturforum, alongside Neue Nationalgalerie and Gemäldegalerie. As an open gathering place, our festival centre brings together institutions, partners, and audiences, providing a shared starting point for exploring the festival programme across the city. For five days, the Berlin Art Week Garten invites visitors to explore, participate, linger, and connect. The open-air programme includes workshops, performances, talks, film screenings, and culinary surprises. Free of charge and open to all!
The Berlin Art Week Garten also serves as an information hub: from suggested routes across the city to a full overview of the festival schedule, which features more than 100 partners, as well as details on individual events. It’s a place to plan your visit, take a break, have a conversation or simply wind down the day in a relaxed setting.
