Today, on Friday, Ahva plays a solo gig at Galerie Pleiku as part of Viljami Nissi's "Summertime Sadness" exhibition.

Ahva is Helsinki-based musician and a long time collaborator with visual artist Viljami Nissi. Together they've created audiovisual performances, and usually it's been Viljami Nissi who has created visuals based on Ahva's music.

Now it's time to turn it upside down. Ahva sonifies the exhibition, creates an ambient landscape that bursts out the seeds of the young man who on the sixth day hung himself.

Free entrance. Exhibition open 15 – 18, Ahva gig at 17:00.

The exhibition and event is supported by Arts Promotion Center Finland.

CW: Exhibition contains sexual imagery, death/self-harm

Welcome to Viljami Nissi's exhibition "Summertime Sadness"!

Summertime Sadness - Viljami Nissi

"On the third day God created a tree, on the fourth a rope, and on the fifth a beautiful young man. On the sixth day, however, the young man hung himself to his satisfaction, with God watching
wistfully from the side. On the seventh day, the seeds that flew into the ground grew plants that soon shrouded a tree with their flowers, where the young man still hung lifeless. One day these plants would rise, and inhabit the whole land with their offspring."

Viljami Nissi (b. 1994, Kannus) is a Helsinki-based visual artist and performer who graduated from Kankaanpää School of Art, majoring in Performance Art. His practice often interrogates and twists different thematics associated with sexuality, fetishes, fantasy, spirituality, and masculinity. In his installations, he often creates fictional tales by exploring alternative realities that are still linked to old histories, and reimagines mythological forms. Through this process, he facilitates the act of role playing and storytelling through image, text, and sculpture. Summertime Sadness is Nissi’s first exhibition in Germany.

The exhibition is supported by Arts Promotion Center Finland.

Jani Suvanto - KHRONOS

Jani Suvanto (1979) is an artist, visual designer and musician who lives and works in Oulu, northern Finland. Suvanto works primarily on paper using ground charcoal, natural pigments and watercolours. His exhibition at Galerie Pleiku is built around two series of paintings, Khronos and The Melting Point.

The Khronos series explores time through the traces and marks it leaves on physical objects. It is an homage to the slow but constant process of millions of years that has shaped our natural environment on and beneath the surface. The paintings study universal textures and shapes that appear in nature in all scales, from islands and continents to small splinters of rock abrased by time.

The Melting Point series in turn takes a look at a more rapid change in our environment: the melting of the polar glaciers – an irreversible transformation of a solid mass the size of a continent into liquid form. At the heart The Melting Point paintings is the unpredictable natural interaction of their materials: water (melting ice) and charcoal (burning forests).
