We held a Turn to Stone workshop at the Grassi Museum in Leipzig!

A lovely group of stone lovers and artists came together to explore what it means to become stone—writing letters as stones, tasting stones, and connecting through storytelling and meditation.
Thank you to everyone who joined and to Grassi Museum for having us!

Also, if you are in Leipzig, Planetary Personhood is still shown in the Grassi Museum as part of the exhibition "Zukunfte".

Council of Foods joined The Spirit of Asilomar and the Future of Biotechnology summit!

Co-organized by , , and , the event this February brought together scientists, ethicists, artists, and… foods. The Council of Foods discussed the same topics as the humans: synthetic cells, AI & biotech, pathogens, biological weapons, and how to frame the futures of biotechnology. The food concluded: It’s time for humans to stop thinking they’re the main course in every story!

Council of foods is a digital meeting space, where foods themselves take the floor. Each one is voiced by an AI model prompted with knowledge and ethics tied to their histories — from mass-produced to heirloom, GMO to foraged.

Haunted Waters at the European Ocean Days

European Ocean Days is a week-long gathering of ocean-minded communities—exploring maritime challenges, exchanging ideas, and shaping the future of our shared seas.

Haunted Waters - the Chemical Cocktail Bar is a growing archive of contaminated waters from around the world—submitted by activists, scientists, swimmers, citizens, and friends. Each sample is haunted. Each liquid holds ‘spirits’—stories of pollution, power, accidents, resistance, greed, and survival.

It was super inspiring to meet and talk to people doing important work on advancing sustainable relations and policies with our oceans. Thanks to DG Mare and JRC SciArt for trusting us and other artists when bringing our work into the context of a scientific and policy making event!

We are exhibiting at ALIENATED in in Delft!

With work from: and collection from

By the late twentieth century, our time, a mythic time, we are all chimeras, theorized and fabricated hybrids of machine and organism; in short, we are cyborgs. (Donna Haraway, A Cyborg Manifesto, 1985) "According to biologist, philosopher and science historian Donna Haraway, we have become alienated from our planet and its critters, as she calls all the non-human beings on Earth. How can we work towards a better co -existence with plants, animals and technology and what such a future will look like? These urgent questions were the starting point for guest curator Isabelle Bisseling when compiling the group exhibition Alienated. The work of the international artists she has selected focuses on imagining alternative. She combines these contemporary works of art with collections from Museum Prinsenhof Delft in a surprising way, in which our relationship to the non-human is central. As visitors we are invited to examine ourselves. Not as a dominant individual but as part of a bigger picture, in which we are just one of many cyborgs."

On May 21st, as part of the Interspecies Futures (IF) curatorial program organized by and , we will be part of a panel discussion about "Interspecies Publications Post COVID-19". We are really excited to be in conversation with fellow exhibitors , , .

This interdisciplinary panel discussion will provide an overview of book projects that were commissioned exclusively for the Interspecies Futures project:

- Becoming a Bat, Embodying COVID-19 (2021) by designer/artist Noam Youngrak Son (KR/BE)
- Non Flowers (2021) by critical designer Thomas Pausz (FR/IS)
- Signal_Crayfish (2021) by artist Kristoffer Ørum (DK)
- Pink Chicken Project (2021) by duo Nonhuman Nonsense (SE/DE)

Each artist will discuss their design and production processes, the implications of making these books during a global pandemic, and how they understand the role of publications as portals of awareness and fascination towards other species.

Note: Center for Book Arts will hold this event entirely online. A Zoom link will be sent in an email to all registrants.

The Pink Chicken Project has become a book!

----

In the Pink Chicken Project book, you will find thoughts by theorists, data by scientists, politics by artists, poetry by activists, activism by farmers, and hundreds of letters by people like you and me. They have all encountered the Pink Chicken Project and expressed what it made them think, feel, and do.

The collision of the Pink Chicken Project and Earth thus leads to the emergence of many other stories; perspectives revealing the sub-level constituents, and trajectories telling of unexpected cross-species interconnections. Could these stories also be told? Can we knot a net of knowledges bringing us towards transmuted relations with fellow earthlings?

--

An edited collection of texts, it features the contributions of activist and farmer Geneviève Lalumière , writer and editor Heather Davis, visual artist Caroline Corleone .corleone, anthropologist Eben Kirksey , performance theorist Jan-Tage Kühling,  activist and historian Jim Thomas, taxidermist Derek Frampton, literary scholar Simon Probst, geologist Carys Bennett , historian of science Wythe Marschall

Planetary Personhood is an interplanetary campaign pursuing radical space decolonization.
The project proposes independent personhood for the entire planet Mars, and considers the possibility of solidarity with the entities already there - the stones!
Can we be kind to a planet, even without “life”?

As NASA, SpaceX, and others, now attempt to bring earthlings to Mars, Planetary Personhood is an opportunity to free ourselves from the conceptual baggage of earthly traditions and systems. Seeking to move away from the dualistic divide between living beings and inanimate matter, the project invites us to a new way of relating to a planetary whole, and to the myriad of nonhuman forces and actants that surround us.

How can we go to space, but without the colonialism?
