Re-Assembling Motherhood(s) invites the reader to learn about and from Maternal Fantasies ́ feminist research and collective artistic practice on motherhood(s), care work and representation in the arts.
Composed of seven interdisciplinary artists / mothers and ten children, Maternal Fantasies takes the social invisibility of the maternal experience as a point of departure to produce films, images, and performances of fantastical visibility. Through personal writing exercises and collective performance scores, they align themselves with ancestral figures of feminist discourses and artmaking, in order to establish new vocabularies and narratives around the maternal for future generations. As both a handbook and an archive of feminist artmaking, this publication (re-)assembles maternal experiences, reflective essays, autobiographical writing, instructional scores, selected artworks, and a manifesto for a caring economy. #maternalfantasies #maternalfantasiesproduction #onomatopee @onomatopeenet #reassembling #collectiveart #collectiveartproduction #feministart #feministactivism #reassembling #motherhoods #maternalfantasies #collectiveproduction #workingwith #feministancestors #feministartcollective #feministischemutterschaft #feministart #feministartactivism #maternalfantasiesproduction #suspendedtime #collectiveartproduction

We’re hosting an IG Live with @officeofpublicart featuring our members @elleperil and @aino_el_solh who will discuss our work as a collective and their mutual interest in healing practices. Tune in on Saturday at 12pm EST/18:00 CET on the @officeofpublicart IG account 😁

“Lena Chen and Aino El Solh are members of the Berlin-based artist collective, Maternal Fantasies. Both artists are interested in the intersections between care work, motherhood, and healing practices. While Lena joined the group as the youngest member (and the only one without a child), Aino had a pregnancy and a second child over the course of her involvement with the group. The artists will discuss what they’ve learned from their experiences working in a large collective that actively involves children in the production process. They’ll also discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the group’s working process and personal lives as caregivers.”

About

MATERNAL FANTASIES is an evolving and interdisciplinary group of international artists and cultural producers based in Berlin, Germany.

We share our research on motherhood, care work and its representation in the arts. We use, share and reflect autobiographic material within our group. We seek to shape the discourse of motherhood through our artistic working process and to enhance the visibility of contemporary feminist positions addressing motherhood(s) in the arts.

Working since 2018 on collaborative projects, we have developed our own repertoire of methods - using performative games, writing sessions, rotational authorship/direction/hosting of events, coming up with various sets of rules for our different projects in photography, performance, installations, workshops and film/video. We are at times carefully integrating our children in the process of our collective art production.

Current group members are: Aino El Solh, Hanne Klaas, Isabell Spengler, Lena Chen, Magdalena Kallenberger, Maicyra Leao, Mikala Hyldig Dal, Olga Sonja Thorarensen, Sandra Moskova.

Und der dazugehörige WORKSHOP: »WHAT’S THE TROUBLE, SUPERMOM?« Samstag, 03.
Join our livestream of the last part of the New Alphabet School #4 Caring. "Love and Labor. Intimacy and Isolation. Care and Survival. A performance by Maternal Fantasies" hkw.de/caring
To care is to recognize all bonds, between both humans and non-humans; between humans and their systems, their infrastructures and institutions, and to attend to their fragility. Join the public program of the third day of the New Alphabet School #4 Caring with an online screening of a performance by Maternal Fantasies: "Care and Survival. A performance between mothers and children in a state of lockdown." Starting at 3pm: hkw.de/caring
How can we together take care of the planet and its population in the era of COVID-19 and beyond? Today's opening of the New Alphabet School #4 Caring explores, maps, complicates and challenges notions of caring, considered as both, a range of practices and an ethics of being together otherwise. The first day introduces the audience to the history of the concept of care but also to the contemporary discourse around caring and thereby sets the ground for the upcoming contributions of the following days. Join live streams with conversations, audios and film screenings starting today and running until Sunday, June 14: hkw.de/caring Photo: Wattenmeer (2019) | © Maternal Fantasies
