"Graphic art is very much about technique. When you draw, you can draw on a piece of paper, but graphic is about the drawing and the technique, that means it needs a lot of expertise, it takes a long time to actually be good in that field." - Heike Arndt from Galleri Heike Arndt Berlin

Hallo Berlin! Today we would like to introduce you to two artists from our Mini Maxi collaboration with Galerie Kuchling. Get to know Nazanin Zadmehr (IR) and Roberta Restaino (IT)

Galerie Kuchling: Nazanin Zadmehr creates an interesting dialogue within the realities that live inside the world she creates. Human figures hold two-dimensional pictures that function as portals opening to other dimensions. Are these portals of the soul? Do they transport us to the past, the memories, dreams or to the wants and desires? Often left incognito or undefined, the mysterious characters offer the viewer an opportunity to peer into their identity.

Galleri Heike Arndt: Roberta Restaino’s serigraphies represent abstract elements, composed of well-defined colours, which resemble biological structures. Intense tones of colour are created through the serigraphy printing technique, where ink is forced through an open fabric screen used as a stencil. Patches of colours and patterns are superposed playfully, resulting in an overall union in the piece. This results in fascinating light-hearted pieces.

In this series of etchings, Anja Höppner cunningly creates a restless portrait of sleep, regarded also as the most vulnerable state for a human being.

As the day is coming to an end, we all think and await the time to be reunited with the comfort and regenerative power of a well rested night of sleep.

We wish you a good night!

Artworks: Anja Höppner, "Superimpose green 1 & 2", 2019, line etching, vernie-mou and aquatint 32 x 34 cm.

Printmaking is an ancient technique which has been evolving for over two millennia. It allows the artists to develop visual solutions that can be reproduced, with the exception of monoprinting. But don't be fooled, for each print requires a whole new process of application of color and pressure, and therefore no two reproductions/prints are exactly the same.

Through her daunting, eerie prints, Victoria Goro-Rapoport depicts a surreal, hard-to-decipher, mystical human reality. We extend the invitation to come and see her prints in person, open Tue - Fri 2 - 7 pm and Saturday, 1 - 6 pm.

Good-morning Berlin! Get to two artists from our Mini Maxi Print collaboration with Galerie Kuchling - Peter Ward (AU) and Ewelina Kolakowska (PL).

Galerie Kuchling: Peter Ward has recently focused solely in the linocut technique, which he describes as “deceptively simple medium with countless aesthetic possibilities”, to seemingly create feel-good-art with a deeper layer of symbolism and societal critique. His works make the most of the medium through an imaginative and unique narrative, and the use of bold colours render the pop-art like pictures an attractiveness that stands out amongst the crowd.

Galleri Heike Arndt: For this series of works, Ewelina Kolakowska focused on the union of bodies, the union of two partners forming one. In the works, one body is lighter whilst the other is almost like a shadow, perhaps reminding us of the yin and yang. Both subjects unite perfectly, creating a pleasing visual representation. The curved lines communicate feelings of grace and balance. A certain harmony is brought about on the paper.

Hallo Berlin! Today, get to know two artists from our Mini-Maxi Print collaboration with Galerie Kuchling. Meet Marlene Bart (DE) and Karin Tiefensee (DE).

Galerie Kuchling: The young artist Marlene Bart showcases made-up, almost monstrous small-scale animal anatomy that, at a second glance, looks like something between an eerie deformity or a mutation. The anatomical character of her prints make the works have a scientific character, but they still serve a very decorative purpose.

Galleri Heike Arndt; Karin Tiefensee’s abstract screen prints are an exploration of the relation between colours and shapes. Colours and patterns are layered, creating hereby an imaginary landscape. She uses a particular technique called the Carborundum technique, where carborundum powder is used to add tone. This technique is known for creating strong colours, something seen in Karin’s works.

Hallo! Today we invite you to discover two artists from our Mini-Maxi Print collaboration with Galerie Kuchling ! Get to know more about Marek Zajko (PL) and Alberto Balletti (IT).

Galerie Kuchling: While the artist Marek Zajko reproduces real human faces, to the viewer the people seem anonymous, exchangeable, deformed. He expertly builds his own, eerie version of the person he is depicting by making them, for the most part, anonymous and interchangeable. He likes to exaggerate and transform by creating new faces from old.

Galleri Heike Arndt: Alberto Balletti’s etchings are part-coloured, part-monochromatic. Only the faces of the piece’s subjects are coloured, directing our attention to their facial expressions. The character’s frowns, combined with the black thin lines dispersed over the pieces, create a dark atmosphere. In the prints, humans and, in some works, skulls, are placed side by side, as if compared, creating a tense atmosphere.

★★Hallo Berlin! Today we would like to introduce you to two artists from our Mini Maxi Print collaboration with Galerie Kuchling: Rahel Mucke (DE) and Albert Pema (FR).★★

Galerie Kuchling: Rahel Mucke creates minimal etchings with vibrant lines, in which the paper’s relationship with the coloured lines sits at front stage, leaving the remnants of the landscape to the viewer's imagination. Rahel’s landscape abstractions reveal a unique way of communicating with the outside world, as she likes to "let the inter-space of an artwork do the talking".

Galleri Heike Arndt: Albert Pema’s colourful etchings enlarge microscopic views. They present detailed, fractal-like surfaces, often with circular or cellular patterns of varying sizes. The many details of the pieces communicate with each other, forming an active dialogue between the diverse elements of the piece. For each work, Albert prints using the same plate. This is a risky process requiring a lot of concentration and precision. With their numerous details, the plates are unique, and, once carved again, can never be reproduced.

Good-morning Berlin! Today we would like to share two artist from our Mini-Maxi Print collaboration with Galerie Kuchling with you! We invite you to discover Gini Wade (UK) and Tim Southhall (UK).

Galerie Kuchling: Gini Wade, who, aside from being a visual artist has a great passion for music, dance and mythology, delivers us her twist on the infamous story of "The Little Red Riding Hood". Using a mixed technique of printing with stone and photo-plates, she cheerfully retells the colourful old tale with a new and improved ending - why can't Little Red Riding Hood fall in love with the big bad wolf and enjoy a cheerful night of swing dancing?

Gallerie Heike Arndt: Tim Southall is a British printmaker and painter. His vivid etchings possess a certain delicateness. He represents figurative subjects, in this case, wolves, in natural landscapes. Each created scene seems to be telling a story, captivating the observer. The technique used, as well as the overall appearance of the works, are also fascinating. The etchings are made up of different textures, with different motifs.

Hallo Berlin! Today we would like to share two artist from our Mini-Maxi Print collaboration with Galerie Kuchling with you! We invite you to discover Attri Chetan (IN) and Tina Wohlfarth (DE)

Galerie Kuchling: Using the bicycle as a metaphor for our lives, Attri Chetan, who stems from a family of artists, likes to depict stunningly detailed two-wheelers in very aesthetically pleasing black-and-white prints. Inspired by events that happened in his own life, the artist eloquently exemplifies that we are nothing but turning wheels trapped in the meaningful cycle of life.

Galleri Heike Arndt: In her works, Tina uses the mezzotint printing technique. This printing technique is laborious and long, but creates detailed pixelated images, which helps bring the portraits to life. Her works possess many aesthetic qualities. The motifs surrounding the faces are created through cut-up paper. This cut-up surface is superposed on another piece of paper, creating a spatial dimensions. Here, a game of shadow play replaces the use of color.

Good-afternoon Berlin! Today we would like to share two artist from our Mini-Maxi Print collaboration with Galerie Kuchling with you! We invite you to discover Xecon Uddin (BD) and Georg Bothe (DE).

Galerie Kuchling: Xecon Uddin plays with micro-biotic motifs on a macro-scale, using the amoeba-like structures as a nature generated pattern. In this symbiotic dance he shows that at this scale, life is equal and has no leverage but the genetic traits that stem from it.
We come into existence with no choice but are soon posed with nothing but choices. Xecon proposes a reflection, a soothing exercise of contemplation that helps clean the spirit from injustice and bring it back to its singular tranquillity.

Galleri Heike Arndt: Georg Bothe uses both cardboard and colour etching in his works. His abstract prints are made up of a combination of several colours and details, encouraging the observer to look further at them. For these particular prints, he used Tetra-Paks as a printing plate. This is a cardboard covered in aluminium and plastic, a material used for milk cartons. The folding of the milk carton is still seen on the printed surface in the works. The fragility of the Tetra-Park material allows for only a few good prints.
