Transmodernity

Transmodernity TRANSMODERNITY - THE NEW NOW is a documentary and platform for changemakers that challenge and trans How can we give value to both science and spirituality?

'Transmodernity' is a poetic documentary film that explores what IS and CAN BE. It is about the new era we are now entering into: a synthesis of modernity and postmodernity. The film - a mosaic-like portrait of changemakers and their projects - is an inspiration and appeal to take responsibility, dream and act upon it:

What comes next? How can we, as individuals and communities, create new social

imaginations? What kind of concrete solutions for a joyful and sustainable way of living can we share? How can we contribute to the paradigm shift that is happening right now?

🩸🩸It’s Menstrual Health Day Today🩸🩸

We’d like to use this opportunity to honor another project by one of our co-founders:

The MENSTRUATION PROJECT by artist, curator and director was launched exactly one year ago, on (though we prefer to call it Menstrual Health Day!) on May 28, 2021.

The is an initiative by the and is dedicated to creating a new communication culture around the cycle. The Menstruation Project kicked off in form of a digital exhibition that features works by 30 artists from around the world. It is structured into 6 chapters plus a DIRECTORY that links to an inspiring range of articles, books, films, initiatives & sister projects:

•• ANATOMY ••
•• CURRENT AFFAIRS ••
•• LEAKING BODIES ••
•• VOLCANO ••
•• CYCLES & THRESHOLDS ••
•• RED TENT ••
•• DIRECTORY ••

The digital exhibition is available through their website:

🔜 Stay tuned!
In autumn they are doing an IRL exhibition at Berlin, taking it to a new level as they present new visions for the so-called GYNECENE ERA!

Check it out and help build inclusive and supportive ecosystems for sharing perspective and raising awareness about beyond-gender menstruation!

As the increasing restriction of reproductive rights have been in the news over the past few weeks, discussions around birth control for amab people has reached a new height. With many calling for more options and research into ‘male’ birth control, and many male-bodied people expressing their wishes to have more birth control options. For this reason, we are pleased to present 37°C, a project by Gaelle Burckle that uses technology and fashion to question the status quo around health, gender and design.

This project was born following the discovery of thermal contraception by testicular lift also known as artificial cryptorchidy. As testicular temperature increases, s***matogenesis (s***m production and motility) decreases, leading to temporary natural infertility and reversible contraception.
Between textile research and social investigation, 37°C provides information on this lowtech method, while proposing an evolution in the form and materials of existing contraceptive devices.

“Through 37°C, I have met the people involved in the development of this type of contraception, and relied on my conversations to create customised textile devices : rings 37.1., and boxers 37.2. I have reunited podcasts, interviews, studies on testicular contraception, illustrations made by Marie Jouble,  and the textile research. This project is part of a sociodesign approach, which brings together essential and particularly relevant questions in our society today  around health, gender and design.”

In these times, where reproductive rights are being eroded all over the world, we share this amazing project by Kasia Strek ( ). This photojournalism series documents their resistance to anti abortion laws in Poland. The text below is by Kasia and accompanies the images:

Even before the new restrictions of the abortion laws introduced in Poland at the end of January 2021, the country already had one of the most restrictive abortion laws in Europe. The procedure was allowed only in case of r**e or in**st, when the woman's life or health was in danger and, in case of irremediable and severe fetal malformation. This last provision, which in 2019 represented over 98% of all legally performed abortions, was judged unconstitutional by the highly politicized constitutional tribunal. The decision triggered massive manifestations, unseen since the communist regime, which quickly spread around the country and demanded much more than the only liberalization of abortion access. Poland also wishes to withdraw from Istanbul Convention on preventing domestic violence against women, does not reimburse any use of contraception, and does not have sexual education included in the school curriculum.

The world was given a dire warning this Monday with the release of the latest report which unambiguously stated that it is too late to prevent climate change and that we are currently living in “the warmest multi-century period in at least the last 100,000 years”.

The report spells out the steps we must take to avoid the most catastrophic effects of global climate change, including reducing carbon emissions to 0 by 2050. Whilst the solutions are clear to see, the problem is that we are nowhere near this happening.

We only need to look at the events of this summer to realise that the worst effects of climate change are already at our doorstep in Europe, with catastrophic flooding in Germany and wildfires in Greece and Turkey.

The IPCC report shows us that whilst it is too late to halt or reverse climate change altogether, we can still avoid absolute catastrophe if we make radical, systemic changes, now.

We are so pleased to be able to feature this GUEST POST by . 🌞

Cultural theorist Stuart Hall once wrote that pop-culture is “an arena that is profoundly mythic. It is a theatre of popular desires, a theatre of popular fantasies.”

For years, campaigners eagerly followed Britney’s Instagram for hidden clues that the singer was crying out for help. The conviction amongst fans that Britney is trapped and sending secret signals about it through her Instagram is what fuelled the Free Britney movement and brought international attention to the conservatorship.
Now we know unequivocally that the situation that Britney Spears has been in since 2008, when control of her money and personal life was transferred to her father and lawyers, is abusive. The fact that what has widely been called a ‘conspiracy theory’ turned out to be based in reality is an opportunity to reevaluate how we understand conspiracy theories.
In his essay “The Conspiracy Myth” Charles Eisenstein says that, rather than being seen to be literally true, conspiracy theories can be understood as myths. “Myth is not the same thing as a fantasy or a delusion. Myths are vehicles of truth, and that truth needn’t be literal… They take the truth about the psyche or society and form it into a story.” (CONT’D in comments ⚡️)

As part of our pride month (shouldn’t every month be pride month?) celebrations, we are pleased to feature (even) more LGTBQIA+ artists and creatives. Today we are presenting Miriam Woodburn’s Q***r Women project, a documentary photography series featuring men z and millennial people who relate to the ‘Q***r Women’ umbrella. Coming from a desire to combat the lack of representation of q***r, bisexual and le***an women and non-binary people in the mainstream, this personal project is sensitive and delicate in it’s approach to it’s subjects. The artist says of the project:

“Due to a long history of erasure and misogyny, q***r women are much less visible in the public’s perception than gay men. Through this project, I want to show the world who we are, as we are.”

Which LGTBTQIA+ artist should we feature next? Tag them below! 🌈🏳️‍🌈

In the wake of the much hyped and much criticised documentary Netflix Seaspiracy, by Ali Tabrizi, it seems that more focus than ever is on our dying oceans, and by extension the fishing industry that governs it. With the extent of corruption, pollution and devastation exposed by Seaspiracy, it seems as though our oceanic eco systems have reached a tipping point.

Casting doubt on NGOs that claim to protect the sea, whilst handing out endorsements to fishing companies, our oceans are defenceless against the machinations of capitalism.

On this World Ocean Day let’s seriously consider reducing our plastic consumption and reducing or eliminate fish consumption.

Humans have always sought some kind of spiritual purpose, and there have always been people (predominantly men) willing to exploit those searching for spirituality. Whether it be for financial power, or physical, sexual or psychological control over people, unscrupulous, immoral and otherwise unpleasant people have found ways to abuse others in the name of spirituality.

In this edition of Transmodernity Film Club, we have rounded up four documentaries about different forms and expressions of spiritual abuse.

1. Wild Wild Country (2018), Dir. Maclain Way & Chapman Way
Available on: Netflix

Wild Wild Country follows the controversial guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, also known as Osho, and the utopian city he built in the Oregon Desert. Coming into conflict with local ranchers, and ultimately ending in the USA’s first bioterrorism attack, this film covers a clash of ideologies emblematic of American culture at the time.

2. Holy Hell (2016), Dir. Will Allen
Available on: Amazon Prime, Youtube & Google Play

Holy Hell is a documentary film by ex Buddhafield cult member Will Allen. Using his wealth of footage from his 22 years inside the cult as their official videographer. Will Allen became involved with the cult following being shunned by his family for coming out as gay, and his film shows us how easy it is to get caught up in a cult, even if you see yourself as a rational person.

3. Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator (2019), Dir. Eva Orner
Available on: Netflix

Few activities inspire such fanatical devotion as the latest exercise trend, be it bouldering, SoulCyle or HIT, in many ways excercise and wellness has become its own secular religion. Bikram Choudhury, founder of Bikram yoga, inspired a cult like following and enormous wealth through his yoga school. In this film directed by Eva Orner, the only film on this list directed by a woman, Bikram’s alleged sexual abuse and r**e towards many of his female students.

Before there were huge documentaries like Bikram: yogi, guru, predator on Netflix, Uma Dinsmore- Tuli was speaking out about misogynistic abuse in the yoga world. After being initially blacklisted and shunned for bringing attention to abuse, misogyny and power imbalances in many male-run yoga schools, Uma has grown a movement and a new way of using yoga.

Through founding and publishing her well known book, Yoni Shakti, Uma has carved out a safer space in the yoga world. Her concept of Womb Yoga, approaches yoga in a kinder way, with respect to individuals bodies and cycles, something which is often ignored in mainstream commercial yoga schools.

Uma’s goal is to “nourish every aspect of our lives as women, whether we have a womb, or not, whether we menstruate, or not, and whether we are mothers, maidens, enchantresses or crones!”, a philosophy that is present in her work as a teacher, author and activist.
