Musterzimmer MUSTERZIMMER

MUSTERZIMMER is a showroom for contemporary art based in Berlin, Germany. Our showroom presents ongoing group exhibitions by established and emerging international artists working in the fields of painting, drawing, photography, video, media art, sculpture and performance. MUSTERZIMMER invites selected artists to exhibit their work. Our mission is to promote interesting new art, and to inform our clients, networks and organizational partners about the artists, their work and career. We do this by means of artist encounters, and through various art events, publications, projects and interventions that take place in the showroom. For private collectors and both corporate and institutional collections MUSTERZIMMER offers personalized services and advice. MUSTERZIMMER was established in April 2012 by its co-founders Eemil Karila, Lola Lustosa and Mika Minetti. History > MUSTERZIMMER started as a continuation for a social project called Alte Schonhauser Straße 26, created during 2011, by Eemil Karila. He started to document the collective activity at his studio/home through paintings, 8mm film and Polaroid photographs. After moving to new address, the ground floor home/studio space allowed to involve more artistic contributions from other artists and bring the space part of public stage. MUSTERZIMMER is not a typical gallery, with white walls and minimal interiors. It is more a meeting point, where we want to host profound discussions, present artworks and organize interventions.

MUSTERZIMMER PRESENTS:

“We are all born naked and the rest is drag”

Saturday 29th of August 2015, 7:00 PM at Fahrbereitschaft / Haubrok Studios in Lichtenberg, Berlin

“We are all born naked and the rest is drag” is a famous quote by RuPaul , that leaves us with questions about, what is identity and it’s potentiality in our society? How can we understand the production of subjectivity and identity in the bio-digital capitalism? Can we define the production and the reproduction of subjectivity? How is this differentiation produced and what kind of autonomy stems for us?

PROGRAMME

> Sounds of nature, a sparkling reception starting at 7:00 pm

> Laura Leiner (BR): "Bartleby Sinnfonie" (Sound Installation, 30 min aprox)

Ambient, exp, improv, visuals LauraL, a brazilian guitarist in Berlin based, plays "Bartleby Sinnfonie": improvisations and tracks inspired by the character Bartleby, of Herman Melville. Besides the 'absurdist' characteristic granted to Melville's text ("Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street"), for this concert Laura also uses concepts of artists such as La Monte Young, John Cage and the obscure playwright Qorpo-Santo, considered the precursor of the theatre of the absurd in Brazil.

For the first time he has prepared a sonic session with visuals. A story is to be told with visuals produced with open source video software Excerpt, whose developer team Räsänen is part of."

> Topi Barbara Berti (IT): "Bau #1 - An interactive piece" (Work in progress)
Concept, choreography, performance, text: Barbara Berti (IT)

Movements are sounds activated from intentions, thoughts are sounds, creating rooms, spaces where new energy is engaged. I am interested to bring attention to the processes that are created in the activity of the thinking. In this solo “Bau #1 – An interactive piece” I am investigating, when and how a “shift of energy” can be perceived. And when it generate the next thought and an intention; in order to create a path that brings the public and the performer into a state of mind, where questions about perception and identity can arise. I refer to shift of “energy” on the level of thought as well as in the level of action and sensation that happens inside the body and as well as the outside, in the space and the public. I am following and analysing the action of reading an interaction, and so the “action of thinking” and bringing attention to the thinking itself”, not to our thoughts but the process that our thoughts (and intentions) can produce. How can we recognize when the energy shifts in a space? Do we recognize when our thoughts and intentions shift the energy in a space? Or what makes it shift? Which processes can these shifts activate?
In my understanding the action of thinking (as well the actions of reading and interacting) create processes and then the processes creates “spaces” that exist also physically. The way how we recognize and are aware of them, can create individualism and freedom in and for ourselves. I attempt to create a space for a cognitive experience, and guide us through it. I see the search of individualism as an expression of freedom and as a political act.
