COMMUNITY: Huma Bhabha Builds Monuments | ⭐️ Watch the 📺 on Daily Plinth ⭐️ | Sculptor Huma Bhabha (b. 1962, Karachi) enjoyed an acclaimed run in the summer of 2018 with her rooftop commission at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 'We Come in Peace.' She is now featured in the largest yet survey of her work 'They Live,' at The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston – through May 27, 2019. Continuing on the sci-fi-esque theme from her Met rooftop commission, Bhabha’s otherworldly and grotesque sculptures and drawings reflect on the disorienting and disquieting effects of humanity in our modern age.
For this video, the ICA Boston visited Bhabha in her Poughkeepsie, NY studio and at the foundry where her bronze sculptures are cast, to discuss her practice, and for a behind-the-scenes look specifically at the creation of the bronze work 'Benaam' (2018) – one of the figures in 'We Come in Peace.'
