Before Cio D'Or ever touched a record, she was already listening to the city move. In the early '80s she was a dancer and choreographer in the stages of Kreuzberg and Neukölln, in a Berlin still walled in and restless with artists inventing new languages for sound and movement. By the time she picked up two Technics, techno wasn't a new genre to her, but the next room in a building she already lived in and the same dramaturgy followed her into the booth, shaping sets built on space, and a trust in silence that's unique.
Over more than two decades — starting with her 2004 debut, the Hokus Pokus EP, and running through a catalogue rooted in labels like Prologue, Semantica and Time To Express — that instinct turned her into one of the genuinely singular voices in hypnotic techno. An artist whose reach now extends well past the booth, into film scores, haute couture runways and gallery sound installations, while never losing the architecture that makes her sets unmistakably hers.
This date carries extra importance for us,a as Cio D'Or has recently announced a long break from touring to focus on production, starting in August — meaning this could be your last chance to catch one of her legendary sets in Berlin before an undefined return to the stage.
