ALEKSANDRA PETRUSHEVSKA & JOHANNA RYYNÄNEN // reinkommen // open studio // work in process

28 August 2026 at 18:00 live at ada studio

Free entry. Please reserve a spot via ticket[at]ada-studio.de
(Please register before 10 o’clock on August 28th, thank you)

At ada, Aleksandra and Johanna are placing themselves between two dances: Teshkoto, a traditional male dance from North Macedonia, and Jenkka, an upbeat social dance from Finland. Rather than keeping these forms intact, they are questioning and moving alongside them. The meeting ground is rhythm—a space for encounter and clash. From there, they build dense, rhythmic patterns that shift from within, allowing a present-tense dance to emerge.

We’re introducing our new studio writer’s here: Welcome to ada studio, Kate Slezak & Fedor Herrmann!

The format will stay the same as in the past year: The studio writer position at ada Studio has been existing since 2013. It was born out of the lack of publications of texts about dance in the feuilleton and gave the person who accompanied the performances at ada Studio for one year as a writer the opportunity to take a look at the artists and their works from their perspective and share it. After 12 years, we thought it was time for a change and also for a different form of publishing. During our research, we came across the dance performance theatre channel, met the owner Clara Dünnebeil and received permission to bring this wonderful format to ada Studio in an expanded form.

Since August 2025, a total of 3 studio writers from different professional fields published their short texts here: sharing impressions and thoughts about the performances at ada Studio. The aim is not reviews, but spontaneous comments and snapshots. The guiding principles are: appreciation for the work of the artists, honesty in sharing thoughts and an open and respectful exchange.

Looking back at reinkommen with IMOGEN PICKLES & JANNA HOFFMANN

It’s been a year, since we started this new format of our studio writer position and it’s time for a new round of writers. So this is Marie Bonath’s last text and we want to say a big thank you for all your thoughts and perspectives over the past year! .bth

Imogen & Janna on their residency:

»Body as Utopia: Exploring Minimalism in Dance
An emerging duet exploring the relationship between movement and sound through the
lens of minimalism. Developed in dialogue with John Cage’s In a Landscape, the work asks
how reducing movement to its simplest forms can expand perception and open new
possibilities for connection.
We approach the studio as an empty white cube: a site of imagination and potential. We are
interested in what already exists within this apparent emptiness, shifting our attention
towards the subtle, the overlooked, and the quiet.«

Janna Hoffmann and Imogen Pickles explore minimalismus through movement, asking questions of precision, reduction, symmetry, simplicity, as well as lightness and directness as movement qualities. They are searching for a utopian landscape of bodies and sound in space—a landscape that invites a shift in perception.

Song: Canto Ostinato, Section 11, Arielle Vernède (live).

Last chance to stream neworks with BOBI H. STOJAKOVIĆ & SERCE fka Marta Marja Ruszkowska

Link in bio, stream online til tonight, June 4th, 11:59pm.

Concept, Research, Choreography & Performance: Bobi H. Stojaković, SERCE fka Marta Marja Ruszkowska
Sound: tedzi
Costumes: KRYZA .vintage , Halo Labels & Vera Stojaković
Outside Eye: Maria F. Scaroni
Lightdesign: Solal Ramand, Raoul2000

The starting point of this collaborative work by Bobi H. Stojaković und SERCE was the idea to engage with existing amateur dances from films. They have been inspired by Polish and Yugoslav films from the 50s, 60s and 70s, mostly films from new wave and post new-wave era, that have surreal and oniric quality and dealing with consequences of WW2, more specifically the intermission scenes of spontaneous dances, in a party, celebration or ceremony. Dance in them is creating a space that you can lose yourself in, both as a dancer and observer. What is interesting about this is the idea of a haunted dance or a dancing driving force that one can’t explain and is, unlike trance, not spiritual.

The motto for the “neworks” series in 2026 is CONTINUE WORKING. We want to give artists the opportunity to continue research processes they have already begun, develop them into full-length performances and present them at ada Studio. Bobi and Serce have worked at ada Studio in a residency before and shared their process during our open studio series called “reinkommen”. We are very happy to have them back at ada studio for neworks.
