Looking back at neworks with BOBI H. STOJAKOVIĆ & SERCE

Thank you to .bth & an anonymous guest for your thoughts and perspectives!

The studio writer position at ada Studio has been existing since 2013. It was born out of the lack of publications of texts about dance in the feuilleton and gave the person who accompanied the performances at ada Studio for one year as a writer the opportunity to take a look at the artists and their works from their perspective and share it. After 12 years, we think it’s time for a change and also for a different form of publishing. During our research, we came across the channel on Instagram, met the owner Clara Dünnebeil and received permission to bring this wonderful format to ada Studio in an expanded form.

From August 2025, a total of 3 studio writers from different professional fields will publish their short texts: sharing impressions and thoughts about the performances at ada Studio. The aim is not reviews, but spontaneous comments and snapshots. The guiding principles are: appreciation for the work of the artists, honesty in sharing thoughts and an open and respectful exchange.

TONIGHT & TOMORROW: neworks with BOBI H. STOJAKOVIĆ & SERCE fka Marta Marja Ruszkowska

29 & 30 May 2026
7pm live at ada studio

Tickets via pretix (pay as you can), link in bio.

The starting point of this collaborative work by Bobi H. Stojaković und SERCE was the idea to engage with existing amateur dances from films. They have been inspired by Polish and Yugoslav films from the 50s, 60s and 70s, mostly films from new wave and post new-wave era, that have surreal and oniric quality and dealing with consequences of WW2, more specifically the intermission scenes of spontaneous dances, in a party, celebration or ceremony. Dance in them is creating a space that you can lose yourself in, both as a dancer and observer. What is interesting about this is the idea of a haunted dance or a dancing driving force that one can’t explain and is, unlike trance, not spiritual.

The motto for the “neworks” series in 2026 is CONTINUE WORKING. We want to give artists the opportunity to continue research processes they have already begun, develop them into full-length performances and present them at ada Studio. Bobi and Serce have worked at ada Studio in a residency before and shared their process during our open studio series called “reinkommen”. We are very happy to have them back at ada studio for neworks.

COMING UP: neworks - Destruction Bureau with ASYA ASHMAN & BELMON / THERESE BENDJUS

24 & 25 April 2026
7pm live at ada studio

Tickets via pretix (pay as you can), link in bio.

Asya and Belmon are busy with the possibility and potentiality of the destruction of movement and material matter by the means of performative practices, dance and sound. In this they examine the entanglement between destruction and regeneration, questioning how they can embody both the collapse and the potential for renewal — not as opposites, but as interdependent forces. Destruction itself interests Asya and Belmon as an actualization of rage and empowerment in positions of oppression as well as a space of losing and grief. Trying to catch this moment of complete destruction, they ask themselves: What is the difference between destruction and deconstruction and its relation to violence? How much violence is there in ending things?

The motto for the “neworks” series in 2026 is CONTINUE WORKING. We want to give artists the opportunity to continue research processes they have already begun, develop them into full-length performances and present them at ada Studio. Asya and Belmon have worked on Destruction Bureau at ada Studio in a residency before and shared their process during our open studio series “reinkommen”. We are very happy to have them back at ada studio.

NOW ONLINE: reinkommen // JUANA & ANWEN // open studio // work in process

videostream 29th March — 1st April
on our website www.ada-studio.de

The two artists ANWEN and JUANA are united by their search for a physical dialogue between origin and present, between ritualized, communal forms and the individual expressiveness embodied by house dance. While each of them pursues her own cultural starting point in her solo research, they come together in an exchange about movement, rhythm, and identity. Their common goal is to use the practice of house to find new ways to embody and transform cultural memories and ultimately share them in community.

OSÉWHEN - that’s Berlin-based artists Anwen and Juana, who are passionate about sisterhood and self-expression. Their symbiosis on stage, developed through years of friendship and shared experiences in dance and music, reveals childlike facets deeply rooted in their souls. Their art is intimate and accessible. Together, they discovered the freestyle scene and began practicing the African-American dance style hip-hop as an improvisational language at Grenzallee 5 (Jugendclub Neukölln). In the dance frenzy of Berlin’s clubs, their love for house music also unfolded, the club style in whose dance scene both are active today.
