As of today, The Skulptur Waldfrieden presents in the lower exhibition hall the new site-specific work of Japanese artist Tatsuo Miyajima on the window surfaces. The panes are covered with a semi-transparent mirror film from which numbers are cut out at random as symbols of time. In interaction with the environment behind the window, with the incident light and the angle from which you view the work, it is in constant change.⁣

The exhibition is part of the series "One Window, Three Artists", which began with the installation of Daniel Buren and ends with the work of Bettina Pousttchi in the fall.⁣

The Curve

6.45 pm: panel discussion with Bettina Pousttchi and Eric D.Clark, moderated by Kolja Reichert

Bettina Pousttchi realizes the 35-meter-long and 4-meter-high sculptural work The Curve on the flat roof of the @Bundeskunsthalle Bonn. In doing so, she responds to the architecture of the building by Gustav Peichl and his understanding of the roof as a „fifth facade“ and as „another exhibition space“. Placed in the northwest corner, the sculpture nestles dynamically into the surrounding space in the form of an accessible steep curve. Markings, similar to those on a roadway, lead visitors toward the object and connect it associatively with the urban context of the street and the urban space.

With The Curve, the artist also makes reference to the legendary test track for cars that the Fiat Group built on the roof of its factory in the Lingotto district of Turin, which opened in 1923. In its time, it stood for acceleration, movement and progress, and thus also decisively for the utopia of modernity. Pousttchi‘s construction-typological transformation of a car curve into a bicycle curve gives rise to a sculpture that offers visitors an open stage for movement and encounter and makes The Curve an artistic statement for a fluid society. Thus, the walk-in large-scale sculpture is also a reflection on fluid change, participation and sustainability and blurs the boundaries of reality and artistic fiction.

The artistic focus of Bettina Pousttchi‘s work is always on the examination of structures of public space and, in addition to sculpture and photography, also includes site-specific interventions with the means of photography on the scale of architecture. For example, Echo, 2009, was a monumental photo installation on the entire façade of the Temporäre Kunsthalle Berlin that referenced the Palace of the Republic. With The Curve, the artist also realizes for the first time a sculpture on the scale of architecture that invites visitors to interact and participate.

We've been busy building „The Curve“ by @bettinapousttchi on our roof the last couple of days. The artist’s inspiration is the legendary test track built by the Fiat company on the roof of its Turin factory. It awaits you at our anniversary party (4 & 5 June 2022).

On Saturday, 4 June 2022, at 6 p.m., artist Betina Pousttchi and curator Susanne Kleine will have a conversation in front of the sculpture. Don't miss it!
_____

Buchmann Galerie is delighted to announce a solo exhibition by Wolfgang Laib for Gallery Weekend Berlin.

Wolfgang Laib’s quiet, meditative work makes him one of the most fascinating artists of our time. The exhibition is centered on sculptures from his Rice Houses series. The mostly elongated, slightly stocky, gable-shaped objects are reminiscent in size and shape of precious reliquary shrines. In fact, the sculptures positioned on the floor are objects made of wood, filled inside with rice and covered with sealing wax, Burmese lacquer, tin, aluminum, or silver. Sealed in this manner, the objects retain an inner something that remains inaccessible to viewers but which holds significant power in the imagination. The reduced outer form and precious materiality imbue the Rice Houses with a certain auratic power. Inherent to the sculptures is a seemingly timeless, original—and universal—quality.

#artbasel #arte #artecontemporanea Art Basel Liste Art Fair Basel Art City Basel Alessio Rattazzi #cdt #corrieredelticino #corrieredelticinoonline #krislemsalu #temnikovakaselagallery #temnikovakasela #lemsalu #sculpture #diving #mixedmediaart #installationart #ceramics #mannequins Buchmann Galerie #artbasel2021 #vanessabeecroft #beecroft #performanceart #liarumma #liarummagallery Hans Ulrich Obrist Jeffrey Deitch JTT #artbaselPodcast #intersections #artmarket #onlineartsales #onlineviewingrooms #artcollecting #OmarBa Galerie Templon #AlexejvonJawlensky Galerie Thomas Schulte Theater Basel Die Mitte Basel-Stadt Stadtcasino Ellen de Bruijne PROJECTS La Prairie Frith Street Gallery Galerie Templon Buchmann Lugano Buchmann Lugano (Immagini per gentile concessione di Art Basel)
#artbasel #arte #artecontemporanea Art Basel Liste Art Fair Basel Art City Basel #cdt #corrieredelticino #corrieredelticinoonline #krislemsalu #temnikovakaselagallery #lemsalu #sculpture #diving #mixedmediaart #installationart #ceramics #mannequins Buchmann Galerie #artbasel2021 #vanessabeecroft #beecroft #performanceart #liarumma #liarummagallery #artbaselPodcast #intersections #artmarket #onlineartsales #onlineviewingrooms #artcollecting #OmarBa #AlexejvonJawlensky Buchmann Lugano Buchmann Lugano
📽🖼🧸🎉 Art Basel ritorna!
