re.act.feminism #2 - a performing archive

re.act.feminism #2 - a performing archive The performance project »re.act.feminism #2 — a performing archive« will be touring through six European countries from 7 October 2011 to 1 September 2013. The first exhibition will open on 7 October 2011 at Centro Cultural Montehermoso in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque region in Spain.

With this project, the organiser cross links e.V. and the curators Bettina Knaup and Beatrice Ellen Stammer, draw on the success of the exhibition »re.act.feminism — performance art of the 1960s & 70s today« which was shown to great critical acclaim in the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, Germany, in 2008-2009. The heart of the project is a continually expanding, mobile and temporary performance archive. In its current version, it presents gender-critical, feminist and queer performance art by roughly 120 artists from the 1960s, 70s and the beginning of the 1980s, as well as contemporary positions. The research focus is on artworks from Eastern and Western Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, the US and selected countries in Latin America. On its route through Europe, the performance archive will be presented and “animated” in different ways through accompanying exhibitions, live performances, lectures, readings and screenings. Through academic cooperation and ongoing research by partner institutions, the archive will continue to expand. The main goals of the project are to make performance documentation, which is spread all over the globe and often difficult to access, available to a broader public for the first time in such a great volume and variety, and to strengthen cross-generational and trans-cultural dialogue. The archive contains performance documentation and video performances, photographs, artist interviews, texts and scores.

radical admiration - ein feministisches Bilderbuch

Dear fabulous people!

As part of the re.act.feminism team I happily like to share my recent project with you! Still in progress but very soon to be launched in Berlin: introducing *radical admiration – a feminist picture book*

In order to send *radical admiration* into print, we rely on the support of many! Please check out our campaign with many amazing details on the book and if you can, consider contributing to our crowdfunding effort!

https://www.startnext.com/radicaladmiration

In a manner yet unknown to art history, the book introduces 11 incredible artists: subjective, gossippy and radically enraptured. These artists developed amazing strategies which we now introduce in our paintings. With Martha Wilson, Polvo de Gallina Negra, Oreet Ashery and Gabriele Stötzer, the book is presenting four re.act.feminism artists (artists’ groups) among others.

The book responses to an existing gap in art history, education, and at the book table. And allows a fresh glimpse at feminist positions. We like to multiply admiration as such and are looking very much forward to your support.

The admired artists: Elaine Sturtevant (US/F), Gabriele Stötzer (DDR/D/NL), Mmakgabo Mapula Helen Sebidi (ZA), Jutta Koether (D), Vaginal Davis (US/D), Yayoi Kusama (JP), Zanele Muholi (ZA), Martha Wilson (US), Oreet Ashery (ISR/GB), Polvo de Gallina Negra (MX) und Lee Lozano (US).

Das Buch stellt 11 großartige Künstler*innen vor, auf eine Weise, wie sie die Kunstgeschichte noch nie gesehen hat. Hilf, es in den Druck zu schicken.

In case you can´t get enough or have not yet been around! Coming up this weekend in the re.act.feminism - open space:

SATURDAY, 13th July, 2 – 7pm Performer Stammtisch - performing the archive, workshop

We are very pleased about an invitation extended to Performer Stammtisch by the makers of the archive, Bettina Knaup, Beatrice Ellen Stammer and Kaj Dorte Osteroth to spend an afternoon there, peruse the video collection, to think about documentation and archiving, and about gender in performance art. Of course we'll think not only withour heads, but performatively: We are hoping for re-enactments, overwritings, transgressions, minmal invasions to develop right there and then throughout the afternoon. Of course no one has to perform.
To register as a participant and get FREE admission to the archive, please register until July 11th by mail to info "at" performerstammtisch.de.
