First member of Sonar Quartett:

Susanne Zapf

Susanne Zapf, born in 1979 in Thuringia/Germany studied the violin with Ilan Gronich (Berlin), Grigory Zhislin (London) and Keiko Wataya (Amsterdam). She particularly enjoys playing chamber music. In 2006, she founded a string quartet: the Sonar Quartett, which specialises in playing contemporary music. She has been working together with artists and performers like Alwynne Pritchard, Marcello Lussana, Elena Kakaliagou, Matthias Bauer, Sabine Akiko Ahrendt and Cathy van Eck. The Kranichstein Performer’s Prize was given to her in 2002.
From her point of view, there is no contradiction between embracing the historical performance practice of the Baroque and Classical periods, exploring free improvisation, participating in multi media projects and performing contemporary music. For this reason, she is a member of the Kammerakademie Potsdam and loves to play with orchestras like the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (she is playing guest performances as principal second violin), while at the same time playing many world premieres of solo and chamber music, or joining ensembles such as MusikfabrikNRW and Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin as a guest musician.

We’re happy to have you!

Sonar Quartett Open Rehearsal

Sunday, 13.04.21. , Aperto Raum

10:00 - 14:00 Uhr

🎼🎻🎶🎵🎻

„Walking Melody“ this weekend.
Come and walk through.

„Walking Melody" is a relativistically interactive sound installation, situated in the hallway in front of Aperto Raum. 6 digital guitar tuners play their own separate tonal notes in the transitory space and allow each individual passing pedestrian to physically walk and compose their own perception, via their own active movement.“

@lottiesebes with her sound Performance „Veritas Ventriloquist“.

„The 19th and 20th century archive of media history is littered machines which have been predominantly operated by women, some more famously that others. In an extensive artistic research project, Sebes has traced, reappropriated and reforged these devices to create a dynamic woman-machine interface.“

21/10/2020

Clearing the space by closing my eyes, parting my legs, and spreading my breath through my body. I send my mind to my legs, or maybe my legs to my mind, it becomes tangled at times. Their forms flexing and spasming to the thought of being removed, detached and independent. A vision of flesh and stretch and leg turning clockwise at the knee, squirming freely in my mind, losing shape. I call out to them or they to me, I cannot tell. We improvise. Sounding and breathing together.

Exploration in Parts — Part Legs is an ongoing investigation that explores the body/voice relationship. In previous work, I vocalized my frustrations at my failed attempts to feel physically united. I move now to a calmer approach, viewing the power of the segmented body and considering my parts as collaborative and inspirational entities. Through this installation I bring forth my findings and questions using projected image, speakers, and a collage of field recordings and voice.
