I asked Katja what the biggest green and red flags are in a tattoo portfolio.
If you’re choosing a tattoo artist, this one’s for you.

Can you tattoo over moles?
I asked Sven about one of the most common questions during consultations.
Short answer:
If a mole is raised or noticeable, it’s usually better to leave it uncovered so you can monitor any changes.
Already have a tattoo over a mole?
Just keep an eye on it, monitor for changes in size, shape or color, and when in doubt, have it checked by a dermatologist.

Sven says he doesn’t trust people with only good tattoos. Because some things aren’t bought, they’re paid for with bad decisions. Is it a hot take about tattoos? Or you share the same beliefs?

Would you get a Trafalgar Law tattoo? 👀
Fan tattoos: yes or no? Is the design tattoo-friendly?
Would a real tattoo artist take a commission for a One Piece fan tattoo?
Or is this one better left in the manga?

Someone recently said that heavily tattooed people love pain.
Katja says: absolutely not. That’s a myth.
Nobody loves pain, we love the result.
If you think tattoos are about suffering, there’s only one cure:
Come and get tattooed at Alter Schwan.
Form better opinions about tattooing and about being tattooed.

We asked Tony to review tattoos from One Piece. Fun fact: he was the first resident in the studio who actually watched the anime.
Do these designs work outside of animation?
Would he ever take a One Piece tattoo commission from a fan in real life?
Or is this one better left on the screen?
Do pirates ride bicycles? let’s talk about it.

Guessing facts about our tattoo artist .tattoo No prep, no clues, and way harder than I expected.
Turns out guessing facts is difficult… because Katja’s real answers were way more interesting than anything I could come up with. You’ll want to stay for Katja’s actual answers at the end. 🖤

In The Illustrated Man (1968), Rod Steiger spent up to 20 hours a day in makeup, getting his body “tattooed” by a team of eight artists.

I didn’t realize how interesting this process was until I watched a full documentary about it on YouTube, highly recommend.

A few facts:
🌌The tattoos were designed to merge the character with the background, symbolizing how they take over his body.
🙀Stencils were made using screen printing.

Tattoo artist reacts (he didn’t know any of this atm)

Holiday hot take from Sven:
You can’t buy every tattoo with money.
Some of them only come from bad decisions, and those are usually the best ones.
We’re slowly entering vacation mode.
Happy holidays 🖤

Swans facts challenge! 🦢 I’ll guess some facts about them and then find out what’s true. Starting with .tattoo When did she picked the tattoo machine, why and what was the weirdest request she got?

Join Sven in our Tattoo Artist Reacts series as he analyzes Akaza’s Demon Slayer tattoos. Realistic or not? Would he take on the commission? Let’s break it down.
