That’s a wrap! The Boulez Ensemble and Thomas Guggeis closed the 2025–26 season, bringing their usual flexibility and programmatic openness to the stage by presenting pieces from different eras and formats, from large to small, all in one night.

The program brought together Viennese waltzes and the Second Viennese School: Alban Berg’s 1925 Chamber Concerto, with soloists alinaibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien, was framed by three of Johann Strauss’s waltzes, in sparkling chamber arrangements by Berg, and Ravel’s apocalyptic homage “La Valse”.

Joining the ensemble’s great musicians for this project were also a few of the Barenboim-Said Akademie faculty, students, and alumni.

A great finish to another memorable season!

New Leadership Team at the Pierre Boulez Saal
Kirsten Dawes and Kurt Danner Appointed Interim Co-Directors

Both bring many years of experience in senior positions within the institution to their new roles. Since the Pierre Boulez Saal’s opening, Kirsten Dawes has been responsible for the hall’s artistic planning and has played a key role in shaping the venue’s musical profile. Kurt Danner has headed the Marketing and Sales Department since 2019. Their first season together as interim Co-Directors will also coincide with a special milestone: in spring 2027, the Pierre Boulez Saal will celebrate its tenth anniversary.

Ole Bækhøj, who had served as Director of the Pierre Boulez Saal since 2015, took over the position of CEO of the Daniel Barenboim Foundation in March of this year. He was elected unanimously by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. With Bækhøj, the Foundation has gained an experienced musician and arts administrator as its leader.

A look back at a great night of jazz. Legendary icon Dee Dee Bridgewater and Helen Sung took the Pierre Boulez Saal stage for an intimate duo set last month, blending a broad mix of classics—from Duke Ellington to Paul Simon—with stories, laughter, and a deep, honest connection with the audience.

Thank you Dee Bridgewater & Helen Sung 💐 for bringing so much warmth and humanity to the stage, and thanks to everyone who shared this evening with us!

The Journey of the Lute
As our 2025–26 season slowly comes to a close, we turn back to the Journey of Instruments, our series tracing the influence of the oud across time and cultures.

Following stops in Iraq, Iran, and Spain, the journey recently reached the European Baroque, where lutenist Elizabeth Kenny and Phantasm - A Consort of Viols performed music by Dowland, Lawes, and others.

📺 In a few weeks, you can (re)watch the full performance online thanks to our collaboration with rbb and ARTE. Stay tuned!

Bravo and thank you, Mitsuko Uchida! 👏✨
A captivating solo recital at the Pierre Boulez Saal met with standing ovations.

The celebrated pianist returned to our hall with a program centered around Franz Schubert’s iconic G-major Sonata of 1826, which she juxtaposed with music by Beethoven, Mozart, Webern, and Kurtág.
