Robin Rhode in conversation with Alfons Klosterfelde! Live on Instagram, tomorrow Tuesday August 24 at 6 pm CET, noon EST.
*
In context of our current exhibition "Copy the Line", Alfons Klosterfelde will be in conversation with Robin Rhode on questions evolving around drawing as a technique, method and further artistic thinking.
*
Robin Rhode (*1976, Cape Town, South Africa) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. His work is a combination of different artistic languages, such as photography, performance, sculpture and drawing, while the public space, outside walls and the street itself are used as a "canvas". By blending art historical and contemporary references, Rhode's work persistently addresses social concerns in a playful and productive manner.

"On Earth We´re Briefly Gorgeous"

Group Show with Hanne Darboven, Cécile B. Evans & Yuri Pattison, Wilhelm Klotzek, Jonas Lipps, Matt Mullican, Lisa Oppenheim, Kay Rosen and Lily van der Stokker.

"How so much of the world passes through the pupil and still it holds nothing. The eye, alone in its socket, doesn´t even know there´s another one, just like it, an inch away, just as hungry, as empty. Opening the front door to the first snowfall of my life, you whispered, 'Look'".
- Ocean Vuong

In his autobiographical debut novel „On Earth We´re Briefly Gorgeous“, Ocean Vuong tells us his story, the story of his family, as a chain of moments. As the daughter of an US-american soldier and a vietnamese farmer, Vuong’s mother was born during the Vietnam war. „Thus”, Vuong says, “my mother exists. Thus I exist. Thus no bombs = no family = no me.” The book recalls the war as a personal retelling of a story, though it is a historical document, written in the now.

The artists in this exhibition try something similar. With their artworks, they leave tracs. Traces to themselves, to gain a brief place in time, or traces to a gap and a storyline, that almost disappeared, and now, as we walk by, passes through the pupil and says „Look“.

"Not only can we change our futures, we can change our history. In some cases this is called revisionism, in others interpretation." We recently spoke with Aleksandra Domanović on the occasion of her exhibition at Klosterfelde Edition.
"The film examines the female gaze from many angles, not just through sensuality or sexuality." An interview with Aleksandra Domanović, whose work is currently on view at Klosterfelde Edition:
Aleksandra Domanović’s interest in friction, slippage and connections between seeing and perceiving are central to her most recent exhibition, "Edicije," at Klosterfelde Edition.
Klosterfelde Edition is open now by appointment! Former KB resident Aleksandra Domanović currently has a solo show ‘Edicije’ running there until 27 June. There’s a nice video trailer on their website in which curator Carson Chan reflects on her practice and current exhibition. https://www.klosterfeldeedition.de/en/
