“RACING BODIES, RAVING MINDS” is a *free* two-day program of free pre-rave workshops and performances, taking place in the Renate Garden, that expands on the community-weaving practices our network initiated during the pandemic, featuring elements of somatic activism, movement practice, book clubs, collective intimacy and critical pedagogy. During the pandemic we learned the significance of such practices for deepening the bonds of q***r kinship and everyday solidarity beyond the dance floor. Funded by the Berlin initiative, Draussenstadt, our program reflects the conviction that arts and culture are not only aesthetic disciplines but socio-political practices with material, sensorial and affective qualities, capable of conjuring engaged togetherness, healing potential and collective transformation. The luxury of public funding is helping us turn club culture into what it should have always be—a festival of affordable abundance!

with Austin Fagan, Carmen 16, Djibril Sall, Filipe Serro, Göksu Kunak, Heather Purcell, Kris Beaghton, Lou Drago, Marc Lohr, Maria F. Scaroni, Matteo Marziano Graziano, Nat Marcus, Pedro Marum, Wanda Gaimes, Zoë Harris

DANCE AT LAST

“We often don’t realise how important dancing alone, or dancing in clubs, is for us. It allows us to engage with people without talking. We can communicate with our bodies to maybe reach a state of euphoria. When we’re sitting at home on our couches, during lockdown, trying to just survive, we lose access to this way of communing, and falsify it with things like the internet or drugs. But If you just focus on going to the party and moving with everybody, you start to feel like a pack of wolves, even if you’re not attacking anything or have no end goal. The purpose is putting euphoria back into your body, and that’s brilliant! And we don’t realise that this is why clubs exist, I think.” (Austin Fagan)

SO DANCE AT LAST!
DANCE AS IF YOU HADN’T BEEN AT THE DANCE FOR YEARS.
DANCE OUT THE REPRESSED.
DANCE SO HARD THAT YOUR DANCE SPILLS ONTO THE STREETS.
DANCE FOR THE OTHER IN YOURSELF,
AND FOR YOUR SELF IN OTHERS.
DANCE LIKE A TRANCE.
DANCE TO FEEL MORE.
DANCE IS MANY THINGS.
SET YOUR INTENTION ON THE DANCE.
DANCE AT LAST IN A LASTING DANCE AT LAST.

On the dance floor with us this edition are: trickster love-child of our xeno-fam, DJ Lentil, “a direct revolt against the self-serious monochromatic angst of modern techno”; Hoe__mies' bootybass shooting star, Lucia Lu; and resident babes, KILLA, and S Ruston spinning b2b with her UK-rooted sister, "intergalactic mermaid", GiGi FM. Next door, in the candle-light “lateral room", you are invited to become horizontally one with PAARTANZ’s borderless sound archives and Marylou’s vast and delicate orchestrations. But what would a room dedicated to breaking sonic routinisation be without a left field infiltration from such wind-your-waist rhythms, like r&b and dancehall, served by Hoe__mies' second half, (drum roll...!) Meg10.

Also with us on the dance floor will be Heather Purcell & Austin Fagan’s long-awaited 3-part “Dance at Last” contamination, a choreography born out of necessity during the pandemic, finally finding its culmination two years later on our club floor with the support of the Lecken fam. Decentralised go-go becomes one with the crowd to unleash a pandemic of a different kind, a frenzied dance epidemic that might spill over into the streets and leave a trace for days.

When you catch your breath, look out for Em Steinberg’s expanded dark room interventions. First up, a cuddle puddle to help make the dark room more accessible for all those new to it (and not only). Then, throughout the party, you are invited to use their fantasy board to make a wish that someone might just approach you to make it a reality.

Tune in for a Lecken double-bill takeover of the toilette. First up our wildchild, Canilla, with an algo-rave premiere of her new album “You Always Wanted More in Life but Now You Don’t Have the Appetite” (what a pandemic-apt title!) performed together with Meisfjord. Then dAEbooty baby takes over for the second hour. Yes Yes Yes. See you there. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

As Lecken won’t be able to curate the annual closing party of Tanztage Berlin 2021, the festival invited three of their residents, KILLA, and S Ruston, to prepare some music to enjoy in the living rooms, streets or parks.

Dearest friends, at long last, you can now order our first zine—written, illustrated and designed during *and* for the slowed-down year of 2020—via our website >> lecken.berlin/

As a second season of social distancing settles in, the words we jotted down in isolation during Spring resonate once more, and we truly hope they inspire some motion and connection within and amongst you.

"2020 is not a lost year. It has given us more time to reflect, educate, exchange, and come together around issues we often have talked about in the club but maybe only rarely have had enough time to dedicate to. We’ve had longer and more intimate conversations with friends we tend to only see in clubs. We’ve spent more time outside, ventured deeper into abandoned Berlin, and looked closer at nature. In club culture we are used to thinking that pleasure lies in excess and hyper-stimulation. But pleasure can also be simple and low-key. We might not be able to dance together for some time but we can still come together in other ways, to share knowledge and foster collaboration around issues that are urgent for the *q***r nightlife Left*: harm reduction and q***r (mental) health; community building, accessibility, and intimacy; intersectional, anti-racist, transfeminist, decolonial, eco-socialist, and anti-/post-capitalist politics. If we are going to fight together, we must do more than dance together."

With loving participation from heather purcell, zoe harris, camilla, maria scaroni, marc lohr, mariana, s Ruston, , marius, landon Whittaker, Em Steinberg, Olympia, rafi, cyborggay/jakubstankcyk, Kris B, Jenny-grant, helge, vincent reynauld, barbs, michael dorrity

As another season of social distancing approaches, we cherish and embrace even more intently one of the techno-somatic tools that helped keep our raver’s diaspora tuned in during this difficult year…. The Technodrift is an easily borrowable and locally adaptable somatic spell dreamt up by Lecken weaver of rites Maria F Scaroni. Here's how you can organize your own drift wherever you may need it.

For Maria's full text and a list of possible mixes that work well for the drift, check out >>>
