It’s been a while since I’ve created flash designs centered around female figures.
I’ve always been drawn to themes like mermaids, witches, and Valkyries, but I struggled with a long-standing dilemma: ”How should I portray them?“ I resisted drawing the typical female silhouettes designed for the male gaze; yet, the paradox remains that these mythological figures were often born from that very gaze throughout history. This question haunted me for a long time.
Until recently, someone told me: ”The characters you draw look like they have their own stories.“
That realization changed everything. Perhaps, by infusing them with that kind of vitality—giving them true souls and agency—I can break through the lens of the ”gaze.“
So, the women I’ve drawn this time don’t fit the conventional standards of ”perfection.“ They don’t have impossibly tiny waists or exaggerated curves. They are powerful, driven by a sense of mission. They exist simply to tell their own stories.
