The studio “Fons Hickmann m23” is among today's most awarded design studios. It varies a lot in size and scope: “There are seven of us at the moment, sometimes there are four, sometimes fourteen” says m23. The Berlin studio focuses on the design of complex communication sy

stems. Its activities include corporate design, book and poster design, magazine design and digital media. The work is conceptual and analytical but at the same time has an enormous sense of humour. Fons Hickmann is professor for Graphic Design / Communication Design at the Berlin University of the Arts. He is a member of the ADC, TDC New York and the AGI Alliance Graphique Internationale.

The magazine of Diakonie Düsseldorf picks up on social debates that are dedicated to coexistence in our time. »Dialogue« tries to give answers to political and very human topics such as loneliness, migration or health care. The design follows the overall design concept that M23 has been creating for the Diakonie for some years now. As part of the reinterpretation of two work complexes by the Hamburg-based photographer Herbert List, MK&G presents the artist’s never-before-shown photo book project »Präuschers Panoptikum«. Photographs of young men and sculptures, which have been rediscovered since the 2000s as the forerunners of a »Queer Gaze«, characterise the exhibition. M23 developed a suitable campaign worthy of the images, which brings the peculiarity and fascination of Herbert List’s work into perspective:

On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the internationally well-known artists DRIFT come together to stage their works at the Museum of Art and Design Hamburg. Three spectacular kinetic sculptures transform the museum into a compelling experience space. Based on the spatial installation »In 20 Steps«,which mimics the flight behaviour of animals, M23 developed a dynamic and contemporary design, leading the viewer through the halls of the exhibition.

»Die Architekt« is a magazine by the Association of German Architects. We redesigned the magazine, which was founded in 1952. In addition to the new design, we came up with a new name for the magazine: »Der Architekt« is now called »Die Architekt«. This paves the way for pursuing the magazine’s direction of content and continuing to report on the topics of architecture and urban planning with depth and an interdisciplinary horizon.

Julia Wasert and Jörg Bange founded their law firm »Bange+Wasert« in 2001. Jörg Bange is specialized in copyright, media and IT law, Julia Wasert works in intellectual property and employment law. Law is known to be a rather dry subject, which made the task we were given, to create a unique design for the company, even more challenging and exciting. In contrast to the often very complex briefs and tasks that lawyers have to work with, very clear shapes and colors were chosen as the main design elements.

The seventh issue of the ALBERT magazine is called Democratic Research. In cooperation with Berlin scientists, this issue raises the question of what it takes to strengthen a crisis-ridden, but so far well proven form of government. Democracy is diverse. It is involving; challenge and privilege. It is colourful, loud, demanding and competitive. And above all: not a dead-cert success.
