✨Out of the care home, into the theatre✨
at Hungry Hearts

Together with the residents of the Haus Rixdorf care home and the visitors to the day-care program at the Caritas Senior Center St. Johannes in Berlin, we’re heading back to the theatre. Today on May 29, 2026, we will attend Hungry Hearts at , a vibrant guest performance by .

We are delighted about this collaboration and are very much looking forward to the shared experience. The theatre visit is accompanied by movement workshops within the care facilities, to explore the piece creatively through conversation and movement.

“Out of the care home, into the theatre”, is an initiative within the Dance On Participation programme that aims to give elderly people in need of care the opportunity to experience live dance and theatre performances. Because culture belongs to everyone. Preparatory and follow-up workshops held in the care facilities ensure that the shared experience continues to resonate — creating space for creativity, connection and community.🎭💃

Exploring the monstrous in Berlin😱

In FRANK, choreographer Cherish Menzo explores the monster as a mirror of societal fears and desires. Blurring ritual, horror, carnival and decay, the performance unfolds through distortion, resistance and fragmented movement – a dance in a world spiralling out of control.

Together with dancers Omagbitse Omagbemi .omagbemi, Mulunesh and Malick Cissé, different generations meet on stage in a collapsing scenery of eerie flickers, instability and unsettling beauty. Inspired by the atmosphere of early horror films, FRANK moves between violence, vulnerability and transformation.

The performance is part of the 10-year anniversary of the Dance On Ensemble.

We’re gearing up for our next premiere: A Day in the Studio – A Suite of Dances

Part of our Reply series, this work brings contemporary artists into dialogue with 20th-century masterpieces – once radical, challenging the conventions of their time and still resonating.

This edition centres on choreographer Noa Eshkol (1924–2007). Her precise compositions and unique movement notation are carefully reconstructed – while opening space for new perspectives.

In response, choreographer Noé Soulier creates a new work. At the intersection of dance and theory, his practice continues a dialogue with Eshkol’s thinking

📍 Premiere: 6 & 7 July
📍 Julidans Festival, Amsterdam

🎫 Tickets go on sale April 30 at 10 am.

Next stops: Paris & St Pölten ✨

Tonight and tomorrow, Dance On Ensemble presents MELLOWING at the iconic Carreau du Temple.

This 19th-century covered market in Paris’s 3rd arrondissement was saved from demolition thanks to a citizens’ movement. Reopened in 2014, it now serves as a vibrant cultural and sports venue, offering a rich and varied artistic programme with both major highlights and regular events.
📍 17 & 18 March, 7.30pm | MELLOWING Le Carreau du Temple

We then head to St Pölten, where the Festspielhaus itself becomes the stage — transforming into a dynamic hub for contemporary dance, talks and workshops.

Under the theme “Gemeinsinn” (community spirit), the festival centres on solidarity and collective action, creating space for encounters, exchange and the shared celebration of togetherness.
📍 21 March, 10.15am–12pm | Open workshop with Jone San Martin
📍 21 March, 1–4pm | Talk Marathon “Community Spirit” featuring Madeline Ritter, among others
📍 21 March, 5pm | MELLOWING, Großer Saal Festspielhaus St. Pölten

✨ TOI TOI TOI ✨
STEIN and three early works by Lucinda Childs tonight at

The evening begins with three pieces from the 1970s – Untitled Trio, Radial Courses and Interior Drama. Performed by the Dance On Ensemble with Alba Barral Fernández Alba Barral Fernandez, Javier Arozena Javier Arozena, Emma Lewis , Lia Witjes Poole @ and Gesine Moog, these works reflect a formative period in Childs’ creative development, when her distinctive choreographic language began to emerge with striking clarity.

In the second half of the evening, Lucinda Childs herself takes the stage together with our dancer Miki Orihara in STEIN, reflecting on a text by Gertrude Stein. The artist Hans Peter Kuhn has created a stage set featuring video projections, accompanied by an intense sound composition of noises and piano improvisation.

STEIN is the second production in the Dance On Encounters series, in which choreographers step on stage themselves and enter into a physical dialogue with a dancer from the ensemble, who becomes a co-author of the work.
