DANCE ON, eine Initiative von DIEHL+RITTER, richtet den Fokus auf die künstlerische Exzellenz von Tänzerinnen und Tänzern über 40. Sie sind mit ihren Erfahrungen, ihrer Ausstrahlung und Darstellungskraft, mit ihrem Tanz-Leben auf der Bühne präsent. Das DANCE ON ENSEMBLE besteht aus derzeit 14 Tänzer:innen über 40 Jahren, die seit 2015 In der Zusammenarbeit mit international renommierten Choreograf

:innen und Regisseur:innen ein eigenes Repertoire aufgebaut haben, um das gewohnte Bild vom Tanz zu verändern. Die Produktionen touren international und erreichen ein breites und diverses Publikum. Mit dem generationsübergreifenden Vermittlungsprogramm DANCE ON PARTIZPATION werden begleitend zu den Gastspielen nachhaltige gesellschaftspolitische Impulse vor Ort gesetzt. DANCE ON ist eine Initiative von DIEHL+RITTER gUG,gefördert durch die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien, ko-finanziert durch das Programm Kreatives Europa der Europäischen Union im Rahmen von DANCE ON, PASS ON, DREAM ON.

Ready for the German Premiere?

After standing ovations in Amsterdam, we are excited for the German Premiere of “A Suite of Dances – A Day in the Studio” at Tanzwerkstatt Europa in Munich on August 11 & 12, 2026✨

Presented within our Reply Series, the evening brings together two choreographic worlds:
A selection of works by Noa Eshkol Noa Eshkol, whose precise, detailed dances are rooted in her distinctive movement notation system.
In response, Noé Soulier has created “A Day in the Studio” – continuing a dialogue with Eshkol’s thinking by approaching shared themes of movement, geometry, and composition through a different lens.

The performances will be framed by a special programme:

📅 August 11 – Introduction by Gabriele Kroos, choreographer and dance researcher, who accompanied the rehearsal process – the reconstruction of Noa Eshkol’s works and the development of Noé Soulier’s contemporary reply.
Followed by a moving introduction with Laura Böttinger – offering a playful, physical approach to the performance, right before the show. Open for all ages!

📅 August 12 – As part of the Dance On participation format „Out of the Care Home, into the Theatre,“ seniors from two Munich care homes will attend. This initiative brings elderly people in need of care to live performances, into the heart of cultural life.

10 Years of Dance On Ensemble – Catalogue (First Edition)
 
As we celebrate 10 years of Dance On Ensemble, we’re looking back at the pieces that shaped our journey. Next Up: Catalogue (First Edition), which premiered on 7 October 2016 at Theater im Pfalzbau, Ludwigshafen.
Created by acclaimed choreographer Wiliam Forsythe, Catalogue (First Edition) explored the bodily knowledge shared between longtime and new collaborators.

The piece was a duet born from the idea of highlighting the special relationship between Jill Johnson and Christopher Roman. They collaborated closely for a long time, and staged William Forsythes works all over the world together. That long collaboration had grown into a shared sensibility and an instinctive understanding of one another — yet both remained distinct artists, each shaped by their own path.

Joining them: Brit Rodemund, who had never worked with William Forsythe before, but brought a shared foundation and knowledge system through her ballet training. She was included in the rehearsal process from the beginning and alternated in the female role across performances with Jill Johnson, the first guest dancer to join the Dance On Ensemble. The different facets of these three dancers and their professional experiences came together to form the basis of Catalogue (First Edition).✨

"The joy to belong" – a collaboration between Jesús Rubio Gamo and the Dance On Ensemble.

It all begins with a childhood memory: a collective game that sparked, for the first time, a feeling of happiness and belonging. Thirty-five years later, choreographer Jesús Rubio Gamo asks – can that feeling be found again, to create a choreography today?

Four dancers from Dance On Ensemble and four dancers from Rubio Gamo’s company, all different ages and styles, take part in a choreography that is shaped by his interest in blending the poetics of the group with those of the individual and giving each of them a voice to create a unified structure.

A choreography woven from accumulation, interconnection, and generational transmission, set to Enrique del Castillo's umbraphone.

As part of the Dance On Ensemble's 10th anniversary season, the evening brings together a selection of dances by Noa Eshkol and a new creation A Day in the Studio by - connected through a shared exploration of movement, space and composition.

A Suite of Dances – A Day in the Studio is the fourth production in the Replies series, in which the Dance On Ensemble invites contemporary choreographers to engage with iconic works of modern and postmodern dance from their own artistic perspectives.

A closer look at “A Day in the Studio” 🔎

“A Suite of Dances – A Day in the Studio” will premiere tomorrow, on 6 July at Julidans!

“A Day in the Studio” is Noé Soulier’s contemporary response to Noa Eshkol’s work, taking her radical approach to geometry as its point of departure. Rather than serving as a model to follow, her systematic understanding of space becomes a way of rethinking how movement is composed and experienced.

Noé Soulier isolates actions such as striking, dodging and throwing from their original contexts, revealing their dynamics, tension and intensity.

In the opening and closing duet, geometry becomes an open framework for variation and spontaneity. This principle extends to the ensemble passages, where precisely composed movement phrases can be rearranged and reoriented in real time. The result is a choreography that continually unfolds in the moment, balancing structure and freedom.

A closer look at A Suite of Dances 🔎

A Suite of Dances – A Day in the Studio will premiere on July 6 at Julidans!

The first part of the evening centres on dances from Noa Eshkol's suite "Theme and Variations" (1965), her first work composed using the Eshkol-Wachman Notation System, a unique system for composing, recording, and analysing movement. Eshkol's practice was defined by an uncompromising commitment to essentials: rigorously articulated choreographic compositions, rooted in a profound understanding of the body and its spatial relationships. Now, for the first time, dancers outside the original Noa Eshkol Chamber Dance Group perform her works – guided by Mor Bashan, longtime dancer of the group and now stager and archive manager, together with her assistant Dror Shoval.

Eshkol's compositions enter into dialogue with a newly created work by choreographer and dancer Noé Soulier.

10 years of Dance On Ensemble – Water between three hands

„We're dancing on the traces of existing graphs, collecting fragments, trying to see a whole that doesn't exist. We're carrying water that runs through our hands."

Today we are once again taking a look back on the last decade: On April 23rd 2016, the Dance On Ensembles second production “Water between three hands”, by Rabih Mroué, premiered at Kampnagel - Internationales Zentrum für schönere Künste.

In his first work with dancers, the theatre-maker Rabih Mroué examined the relationships between presence and absence, reality and fiction - with the performers' bodies as sites where these boundaries accumulate and blur.

The piece was a collaborative work between Mroué and the ensemble, informed by the dancers’ personal body- and memory archives, which were brought together with Mroué’s concept and ideas. The 75-minute work was accompanied by a live drum set by Philipp Danzeisen and structured around short texts read by the dancers throughout.

With this production, Dance On Ensemble was named “Company of the Year” in tanz magazine’s 2016 yearbook, by Dorion Weickmann.

Ten years on, we're grateful for the artists, collaborators and audiences who were and continue to be part of this journey. ✨

at Hungry Hearts

Together with the residents of the Haus Rixdorf care home and the visitors to the day-care program at the Caritas Senior Center St. Johannes in Berlin, we’re heading back to the theatre. Today on May 29, 2026, we will attend Hungry Hearts at , a vibrant guest performance by .

We are delighted about this collaboration and are very much looking forward to the shared experience. The theatre visit is accompanied by movement workshops within the care facilities, to explore the piece creatively through conversation and movement.

“Out of the care home, into the theatre”, is an initiative within the Dance On Participation programme that aims to give elderly people in need of care the opportunity to experience live dance and theatre performances. Because culture belongs to everyone. Preparatory and follow-up workshops held in the care facilities ensure that the shared experience continues to resonate — creating space for creativity, connection and community.🎭💃
