So exciting to see Das Dritte Land — first realized in 2019 at the Berlin Kulturforum / Stiftung St. Matthäus — now growing in Erfurt as a public artwork, thanks to , the commitment of the City of Erfurt, and the private initiative of Lila Choi (Korean resident and artist in Erfurt). 💚

What I find most interesting: many read it through a gardening / landscape-design lens, but the work actually operates differently. It’s a heterotopian, geo-poetic landscape — an imagined Korean peninsula in exile that keeps evolving in Europe. 🌱

The text frames Das Dritte Land in a rather horticultural language, which doesn’t fully capture this heterotopian dimension — but that gap makes how an artwork can be perceived- It makes you want to go there and see how the work really operates.

Das Dritte Land shows that exile can take the form of a garden — mobile, cared for, and politically alive.

Meanwhile in Erfurt – Das dritte Land ()
enters its third springtime in Petersburg, Erfurt, with new signage—blooming and blurring the border zones.

On this special day, as the impeachment of Yoon has been enacted,
we allow ourselves to silently hope—for a better world,
for a place where a new approach to North Korean politics might be dreamed.

ERÖFFNUNG DES KOREANISCHEN KÜNSTLERGARTENS
"DAS DRITTE LAND"
3. Oktober 2022, 15 Uhr, Angermuseum Erfurt

Oktober 2022.

Curator

Location:
SOMA 300, Eylauer Str. 9, 10965 Berlin

The exhibition, Where the Movement Stays—first presented in Seoul and now opening in Berlin—is an interdisciplinary dialogue about mobility conducted between Korean architect Ki Jun Kim, this year's "Creator" of ZER01NE ( www.zer01ne.zone ), and Berlin-based artist Astrid Busch. The show presents a site specific installation, interviews and films in which the two creatives conceptually and visually explore urban mobility in the metropolises of Seoul and Berlin.

In the interplay of form, colour and light, as in the dialogue between the real image of the urban landscapes and their abstractions, an illuminating interdisciplinary and multimedia exploration about mobility in the cities of Seoul and Berlin unfolds.

The exhibition was realized through the kind support of ZER01NE.
