IN THE DARKNESS LET ME DWELL
2018, HD, stereo, 10'20"
In Naples an extraordinary archive becomes a film. Eighty kilometers of shelves containing seventeen million names in handwritten books, hundreds of thousands of payments and detailed motives from 1573 to today, shaded by lights and shadows. Books that - playing with scale and perception - become landscapes, cartographies, deserts, roads. Where deteriorated paper can also evoke the skin affected by the disease: the tragedy of the plague of 1656 appears thus – transfigured – in the work.
