My sister’s girlfriend Helen used to say this to me every night when she lived with us when I was a teenager. She would come up to my room, sit by the window with a cigarette and a glass of red wine and I would tell her all about the Civil War, Cromwell, weird and obscure facts about British history that I had spent hours learning in my little dork bedroom (oh yes, while others were having fun, I was studying hard, always 🤣📚📚📝) and this is how she would help me revise for exams. She was like another sister to me and in those times she learnt numerous dork facts and I learnt about life and living and smoking and breaking rules. I got her for 16 years and it made an imprint so large on my life that I’d say she helped form me, and make me, alongside my other sisters. We miss you dear Helen, it’s an absolute tragedy that you’re not here. ❤️

That was such a special, energising evening as part of programme of events with in conversation with who is a real force of nature and inspiration. The audience was gorgeous, the team were so brilliant, Exeter itself was sunny and lovely and t shirt got many compliments and was very fitting for the talk. ❤️

A timely gift from Ireland.
Getting an Irish passport has given us new family members that we never knew about, which has been the most amazing journey so far. I’ve had a big welcome from Ireland and I’m excited to go back and meet more family. 🇮🇪🇮🇪 Given that we never knew our grandad who was a Dubliner, and my dad barely knew him, the whole thing is strange and a deep dive into the past.

While I’m thrilled to have an Irish passport, the whole thing is divisive and painful because a lot of the people I love don’t have that. Everything the current government has brought us is hell. They do nothing but divide us. For f**k’s sake, let’s unite and get rid of them. ❤️

In Northern Ireland in a tower thinking of all my sisters in blood and life, the many amazing women that run through us and all the paths that converge to bring us together, I can’t imagine life without those key people but there sure have been some secrets and repeated patterns and all sorts of things to uncover to get to this point. Ireland has been a TRIP so far 💚

Thinking of all the strong women who’ve stepped up and carried more than their share in my life // this one is an ode to our Blackpool grandma, who was a real vibe. We pasted these up there in 2017 just after my dad had died. We’re now in Ireland and despite the patrilineal links and I have decided to sit down and plan the film we are making with about my mum, another rock solid woman of extreme substance who somehow found herself in the company of some fairly mediocre men in her life. A multilingual, politically engaged, well read, kind and huge hearted woman who should have had a bigger life than the one she got. To all those power house women teaching us everything they know and holding it all down, thank f**k for you ❤️

‘Ask me no questions, I’ll tell you no lies’ // the latest experiment on paper ✂️💌📝🔪 looking at shame and all we carry through the generations, sometimes unknowingly, often repeating patterns even when you know them enough to be able to break them. The liberation when or if you do break them though is quite cool. I’ve certainly won back some more time 💡
