In October of 2012, Bárbara Fonseca and Natalia Blanco met and started a spontaneous affair. A courtship that beganwithout any expectations, and grew slowly without really knowing where to go. Bootsbau made them start a path together that has led them through the fields of contemporary art, documentary and illustration... Step by step, this project that began without any direction, started to take shape and became a way of life, a mechanism used to communicate with the world and to give answers to their questions. Focused on contemporary art and illustration, the project is open to new proposals and new ways of expression. Through exhibitions, publications and workshops the space slowly becomes an active part of the ever-growing Berlin art scene. Who are we? We are Natalia Blanco and Bárbara Fonseca. http://nataliablanco.de/ http://barbara-fonseca.tumblr.com/

Bootsbau would like to thank everyone who came to the opening of Brave New World - a Selection of Illustrators from the Royal College of Art, and to give a big big thank you to all the amazing artists involved in this beautiful project! Thank you Carolina Celas, Charles Rickleton, Hayley Warnham, Julie Spooner, Konstantinos Trichas, Laura Gottlieb, Maria Ines Gul, Mariana Sameiro, Oliver Binnian, Oona Brown and Timor Davara.

"The term (Utopia) has been used to describe both international communities that attempt to create an ideal society, and imagined societies portrayed in fiction."

Utopias and Dystopias are contemporary answers to present problems.
A utopia is a “reactive” answer directed to ways of living and society models where the actual problems are.
It is also an intelligent reinterpretation and recreation past and present.

A re-imagining of a story, places and concepts.

However an utopia can not only be a dream but also something possible and desirable.

A Dystopia is the opposite, an awareness and an alert to the reality we live in, that overpower and limits societies. These are the highlights for the exhibition in Berlin, that pretend to raise questions about the value of contemporary society and meaning of Future.
