Benaboud. The first series of Blackout Cities concern the German Capital. Combining architecture,photography and illustration to produce unique visions of urban sceneries. The excessive and exclusive use of black, the strong composition as well as the absence of human presence, generate an obscure atmosphere characterising her work. All her drawings and prints are self-made in her atelier, mostly signed and in limited editions.

I found in my drawers some old sketches back when Blackout Cities started in 2016. The idea behind the small sketches is to test the composition and the black and white balance before starting the large detailed drawings. Back then I was not interested in Berlin’s central station (first picture) , but now that I look closely, I think it would be worth giving it a go. 💪🏼
Now on our online shop! Screenprint of the famous brutalist building Spitteleck in Berlin (Mitte). This complex was built between 1980 and 1985 under the direction of the architect Eckart Schmidt. In 1986 it was awarded the architecture price of the Capital Berlin during ex-GDR. It is now famous for carrying a big neon “Coca-Cola” sign on top of it.
