At the start of the event, Ruchira Das, founder and director of ThinkArts, will give an overview of the development of performing arts for the very young in India. ThinkArts is an arts organisation that creates, curates, and enables high-quality artistic projects and experiences for children and young audiences in various cities across India. FRATZ and ThinkArts already collaborated in 2024 on the FRATZ Research Labs. We want to use this opportunity to look at these and other international collaborations. How can they help local artistic communities expand their vocabulary (in both directions) while also connecting to local realities and childhood experiences?

Diese Veranstaltung ist hybrid und kann auch digital besucht werden

Zu Beginn der Veranstaltung gibt Ruchira Das, Gründerin und Leiterin von ThinkArts, einen Überblick über die Entwicklung der Performing Arts für die Jüngsten in Indien. ThinkArts ist eine Kunst-Organisation, die in verschiedenen Städten Indiens qualitativ hochwertige Kunstprojekte und -erlebnisse für Kinder und junges Publikum schafft, kuratiert und ermöglicht. FRATZ und ThinkArts kooperierten 2024 bereits in der Durchführung der FRATZ Forschungslabore miteinander. Wir wollen die Möglichkeit nutzen, auf diese und andere internationale Kooperationen zu schauen. Wie können sie den lokalen Künstler:innen-Szenen helfen, ihr Vokabular zu erweitern (in beide Richtungen) und gleichzeitig an die Realitäten und Kindheitserfahrungen vor Ort anknüpfen?

The Young Dance Network (YDN), the international ASSITEJ network feor dance for young audiences, invites you to join us in wrapping up the day together: Whether you’ve been working in the field of dance for young audiences for a long time or are simply curious—everyone is welcome! Together, we’d like to gather experiences, challenges, dreams, and visions for the future through a creative exchange and capture them on a large floor map. What connections, links, and unexpected paths can we discover there?

"About the mime way of working"
facilitated by (director) and Toon Kuijpers (performer) of “Shelter (Jaszak)”

In this three-hour-workshop we research some principles of modern mime on the floor, related to our group's practice.

'We always start from the body. Then there is presence. Then there is a theme or an object, and the body speaks. A character arises.'

It is advised to watch a performance of “Shelter (Jaszak)” before the workshop as we will use it as a point of departure and also want to give some space to hear about the team’s artistic process and experience with the performance. How is the show received by different audiences? How did the team approach the subject of houselessness for very young audiences? However, it is not mandatory to have seen the performance to participate.

Zur Arbeitsweise im (körperlichen) Mime
geleitet von Simone de Jong (Regie) und Toon Kuijpers (Performer) von „Shelter (Jaszak)“
In diesem dreistündigen Workshop erforschen wir praktisch einige Prinzipien des modernen Mime, bezogen auf die Praxis unserer Gruppe.

„Wir gehen immer vom Körper aus. Dann entsteht Präsenz. Dann kommt ein Thema oder ein Objekt hinzu, und der Körper spricht. Eine Figur entsteht.“

Es wird empfohlen, sich vor dem Workshop eine Vorstellung von „Shelter (Jaszak)“ anzusehen, da wir sie als Ausgangspunkt nutzen werden und außerdem Raum geben möchten, um mehr über den künstlerischen Prozess des Teams und dessen Erfahrungen mit der Aufführung zu erfahren. Wie wird das Stück von unterschiedlichem Publikum aufgenommen? Wie ist das Team an das Thema Obdachlosigkeit für ein sehr junges Publikum herangegangen? Es ist jedoch keine Voraussetzung, die Aufführung gesehen zu haben, um teilzunehmen.

In “What Sticks?”, we take a look at the artistic processes behind “The Sticky Dance” created by disabled and non-disabled co-directors. We talk about neurodiversity and access, about approaches that work and those that reach their limits. How do artistic, performative and technical perspectives come together in shaping such a work?

We want to present you our next Symposium event ⭐️

A Research Lab for babies and their companions: Observing, doing, and being
with Julie Peters and Andreas Pichler (Theater o.N.)

In the Research Lab, babies between 0 and 18 months and their companions are invited on a sensory journey of discovery. Dancer Julie and musician Andreas create a safe space for play, where dance, music, and perception meet.

With few verbal instructions and a great openness to whatever emerges in the moment, playful encounters unfold. Light and shadow, voice and sound, as well as physical and tactile impulses invite exploration, wonder, and shared experience.

Attentive observation is just as important as active doing. The Research Lab offers time and space to attune to the subtle forms of communication between babies and adults, and to discover new possibilities for expression and encounter. In this way, a space shaped by mutual inspiration and lively exchange emerges.

No prior experience is needed – just the desire to embark on a sensory journey with your baby.

Ein Forschungslabor für Babys und ihre Begleiter:innen: Beobachten, Machen und Dasein

Im Forschungslabor sind Babys zwischen 0 und 18 Monaten und ihre Begleitpersonen zu einer sinnlichen Entdeckungsreise eingeladen. Die Tänzerin Julie und der Musiker Andreas eröffnen einen geschützten Spielraum, in dem Tanz, Musik und Wahrnehmung aufeinandertreffen.

Mit wenigen verbalen Anleitungen und viel Offenheit für das, was im Moment entsteht, entwickeln sich spielerische Begegnungen. Licht und Schatten, Stimme und Klänge sowie körperliche und haptische Impulse laden zum Erkunden, Staunen und Austauschen ein.

Es sind keine Vorkenntnisse nötig – nur die Lust, mit eurem Baby auf eine sinnliche Reise zu gehen.

a panel facilitated by Manuel Alejandro Chávez Flores and Fernando Alfonso Leija Flores / , Adrián Hernández and José Agüero / Teatro al Vacío, Mauricio Arizona / Una Canasta de Limones, and Cíntia Rangel

The panel proposes an experimental framework that bridges discourse and movement, exploring displacement as a bodily, political, and sensory condition. The structure is organized into alternating blocks of 20 (or 30) minutes of conversation, followed by 20 minutes of improvisation.

Guided by the Cia Flores TeatroDanza, which will share movement proposals and games developed during the research process for the performance *Bosque*, the improvisation here does not function as an illustration of theory, but as a space for direct response to discourse, in motion.

In diesem Panel geht es um eine experimentelle Anordnung zwischen Diskurs und Bewegung, die Entwurzelung und Vertreibung als körperliche, politische und sensible Bedingungen behandelt. Die Struktur gliedert sich in abwechselnde Blöcke von 20 (oder 30) Minuten Gespräch, gefolgt von 20 Minuten Improvisation.

Die Cia Flores Teatro/Danza leitet das Format an und bringt Bewegungsvorschläge und Spiele ein, die im Rechercheprozess des Stücks Bosque entstanden sind. Die Improvisation funktioniert in diesem Fall nicht als Illustration der Theorie, sondern als Raum einer unmittelbaren, körperlichen Antwort auf den Diskurs.

Feel the BÄÄÄM! Devising for a very young Deaf and hearing audience
an exchange with the BÄÄÄM Creative Team | tanzfuchs PRODUKTION / Barbara Fuchs – moderated by Susanne Tod

How do we create dance performances that equally consider the diverse perceptual styles of Deaf and hearing people? How can this be achieved for a very young audience? What are the needs and requirements during the production process, and how do these look during guest performances? And—not to be overlooked—how do we create artistic spaces for equal exchange, research, and work in times of politically and financially precarious structures?

Choreographer Barbara Fuchs, dramaturg Vivica Bocks, and performer Geli Strahl engage in an exchange with access dramaturg Susanne Tod, framed by small practical, artistic interventions. Together with the audience, they discuss possible answers to the questions above and explore how artistic research journeys can be shaped in creating theater performances for a very young Deaf and hearing audience.

"Baobab" ! ✨by and with

Baobab – A dance performance with live music (2+)
Cíntia Rangel & Theater o.N.

One of the myths about the Baobab says that the Orishas created it so large (a Baobab can grow up to 30 metres high) that it can be seen from afar and can itself see for great distances. Its trunk is hollow and thick (it can reach a diameter of up to 11 metres) and can store not only water, but also knowledge over its lifetime of more than a thousand years.

The legend says that when the Baobab saw its reflection in the water of a lake, it began to ask the Orishas why it was so different from the other trees. The Orishas then turned it upside down so that it could focus on itself and realise that it was just as special as all the other trees with leaves, fruit or flowers. This is why the branches of a Baobab resemble roots.

In this way, the Baobab became the tree of life, an ancient link between past and future, a symbol of resilience in the face of time and challenges, a keeper of knowledge that is passed down through generations.
It is believed that if you hug a Baobab, you can hear its stories and teachings from thousands of years ago. This is the story that inspired the dance performance "Baobab".

"BUILD"

An exploration with sticks and clay (3-5) |
ToysToy Theatre / Sidharth Varma & Krisha Kurup (India)
in cooperation with Think Art

There is never a moment of boredom if you know how to play.

"Build" is a performance for toddlers about the worlds that our curiosity can open. Two young people, one with sticks and the other with clay, explore the possibilities of play while co-creating and co-existing. They encounter the different sizes and shapes of their materials, offer them sounds, find a rhythm and discover ways of being together while embarking on a journey of music and movements.

"Build" is inspired by the open-ended, improvised games children create when left to their own devices. As the title suggests, the performance inhabits a "build and re-build" world of constant evolution and invention. This non-verbal performance offers an imaginative perspective on natural materials as objects for play.

BUILD uses sticks, clay, rhythm and movement to create a multi-sensory experience that invites young audiences into a celebration of creative exploration. Through play, curiosity, and gentle human interaction, the performers transform an empty, silent space into one filled with comfort and imagination.

A playful journey with water (2-4 yrs)

"Neer" invites young audiences on a whimsical journey into the world of water, blending wonder with imagination

In this play, sounds of water evoke a symphony of experiences that will resonate deeply with the senses. The soft pitter-patter of rain droplets on the skin, the dance of ripples, the shapes that water takes — stir up curiosity and wonder. Through visuals of shadow play and the aural experience of water as music, the audience moves with the protagonist in this exploration.

The piece encourages young audiences to delve into the sensorial joy of playing with a material that has innumerable sonic, visual as well as tactile possibilities — the shape of water gushing through a sieve, the sensation of a splash of water on the face, the magical sound of a droplet of water.
