New FRATZ in the making and we want you to be part of it! 🌱

We are seeking productions for children aged 0-6!

FRATZ 2026 will take place in Berlin from October 9-15, 2026. We are planning to invite 4 productions for children aged 0-6. This can be productions that are recommended for children at least as young as 3+. It could also be productions recommended for children as young as 3 months, 6 months, 1 year or 2 years old. Productions for children 4 years and older do not fit the profile of our festival. #

We are interested in:
bold, funny, serious, light, interdisciplinary, or genre-specific productions that experiment artistically in new directions in the performing arts for very young audiences.
Productions that place particular emphasis on accessibility and the removal of barriers.
In particular, we would like to offer a platform to artists who, due to marginalized perspectives, have been unable to find many or any opportunities to present their work.

Deadline for applications is 16 November 2025 via application form on our website!

Wir suchen Inszenierungen für Kinder von 0-6 Jahren!

FRATZ findet vom 9.-15. Oktober 2026 in Berlin statt.

The workshop aims to provide practical knowledge on creating performances for children with diverse developmental profiles, rooted in Dalija Acin Thelander's extensive artistic and academic research. This workshop encourages practitioners to rethink formats and methods in the field, inspiring and empowering them to create artistic experiences that honor the unique nature of this audience. By the end of the workshop, participants will gain valuable knowledge and practical experience for creating immersive performances, which they can apply in future projects—whether for funding applications, collaborations, or further

Looking back! Fratz Atelier

If you were by our location in Podewil, then you were probably excited to experience our interactive atelier “grow & root”, made and facilitated by Michaela Millar and Natalie Giannopoulos. From recycled materials they built a tree, where visiting children and adults could be a part of making it grow. You could also use the space for relaxing on the many pillows, which were filled with everything from hay to metal bottle caps and much more.

On the last atelier day, the children could harvest what the tree had to offer, which was many wonderful chains and drawings. We hope this installation brought a lot of joy and playfulness to our visitors. We enjoyed seeing the happy and creative children, that took part and left something behind or took something with them.

We try to offer something interactive every year at FRATZ, to give something that can be used by everyone at any time during the festival days. We hope you had fun!

****

Looking Back! Research Labs

A big thank you to Swapnika Reddy and Sidharth Varma - participants in this year’s FRATZ research labs - for sharing their work in progress with our 2024-fratz-professional community and speaking about the process so freely and from the heart. We are aware can feel risky.
Thanks also to everyone present giving their response in such a valuing and appreciative way. It really made this evening warm, productive and affirmative.

Very excited to hear what will grow out of these seeds in the future!

This year, we asked our cooperation partner ThinkArts Kolkata, to design the research labs according to the needs and interests of the theater scene for young audiences in India. Nishna Mehta from the ThinkArts team organsied a digital masterclass on Theater for Early Years facilitated by Sananda Mukhopadhyaya.

FRATZ 2024 – Looking back!

Three weeks ago today we opened our FRATZ festival and symposium at Podewil in Berlin Mitte. We thank everyone involved – the artists, the speakers and our partners and wonderful powerteam who created these jam-packed days of dance, theater and exchange! But most of all we want to applaud our audience consisting of families, Kita-groups and professionals.
We are proud to say we reached approximately 1700 small and tall people across Berlin and filled nearly 100% of our capacity. It is also the biggest audience we ever reached with FRATZ. Not to say that “higher, faster, wider” is always the criteria but in times of severe cuts in culture funding it also seems important to stress how much we can achieve with comparatively little financial means.

We will now start a series of posts reminiscing on various FRATZ 24 events through photos and drawings. Much joy looking back!
