𝘢 𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 is a site-specific mixed media art installation that explores the manifestation of overlapping spaces, (anti-)compromise and the ever-expanding distance between individuals.

This exhibition is the long anticipated opportunity for composer and sound artist Alain Chiu, choreographer and video designer Max Lee, and producer and curator Jacqueline Wong, three core members of Trilateral Lab, an artistic collective based in Hong Kong, to meet in the same space, since the outbreak of the COVID pandemic. Lee and Wong have since migrated to the United Kingdom and Germany respectively and have not been able to travel back to Hong Kong due to travel restrictions and strict COVID measures imposed by the Hong Kong government.

The idea of the project began in 2019, when the three did an artist residency at Prenzlauer Studio in Berlin, at the time of the Hong Kong protests. Returning to the space three years after, in this exhibition, Chiu and Lee each bring in objects and videos that they have each created in the previous years, with the other’s support throughout the creative process. Changes to the artworks are made to adapt to the space and particular context, being far removed from their original locality, to acquire new meanings in the current configuration. Wong, who has been supporting the collective as a dialogue facilitator and producer, has taken the role of curator in the project. While being an exhibition space, the space in question is also an artist’s studio where other Berlin-based artists inhabit and whose business will go on as usual during the exhibition period. The project examines the complex emotions of individuals who have experienced social turmoil and its aftermath, both physically and remotely, and how the idea of distance may be translated through the overlapping of various performances and manifestations of space.

Last edition of Window Project is showing until this Sunday, come by and check out .yesakova’s work.

𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝟭.𝟭𝟱 | 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗶𝗮 𝗬𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗸𝗼v𝗮 | 𝟭𝟭-𝟮𝟬.𝟮.𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮

In her works, Sofiia Yesakova deals with questions of globalization and ecology. She uses artistic and research practices to navigate the radical conditions of the Anthropocene in order to rethink the relationship and definitions of humans and nature.

Yesakova’s work Parasites links overpopulation, consumerism and the exploitation of natural resources. Steel beams, fragments of which are depicted by the artist, are the basis of our post-industrial world. In their artificial, austere beauty, Parasites is an attempt to stop for a moment the relentless movement of capitalist construction.

Heteronomy of Freedom questions the concept of freedom as a core element of modern culture. Rather than a singular definition of freedom, the work proposes to think of the multiple appropriations and meanings of freedom in different political, economic, ideological and social contexts.

After a long break, we are very excited to announce the 14th edition of the Window Project with Soohyun Choi, opening on next Friday, 28th of January.

Soohyun Choi focuses on the moments of awkwardness, failures, and confusion that trigger her to question ideas of norms and ethics. Her writing, which is foundational to her videos, investigates female subjectivity. She playfully multiplies herself as an attempt to escape from a concrete singular identity. Using self-reflection and dry humour, her work demystifies ideological thinking and raises doubts about her own concepts and ideological position while blurring the boundaries between memoir, fiction and essay. Her videos exhibited in the windows of Prenzlauer Studio experiment with the first-person narrative through two different spaces - an exhibition, a tunnel slide in a waterpark - and connect them with reflections on multiple identities, temporalities, and the language of heteronormative ideologies.

Window Project 1.13 | Giuliana Kiersz | spaces with words, words for fantasies | 16-31.10.2021

𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙨, 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙚𝙨 is an exhibition around the project encuentros de escritura - writing gatherings (2017 - ongoing). The writing gatherings are sensitive and political spaces where to reflect collectively on the territories we inhabit to create new narrative structures for the society we want to live in. By investigating our relationship with language, we intend to expand the dimensions of words so as to perceive beyond our ideas of what exists. We practice writing as a form of allowing sensitive knowledge to arise from listening, collecting and thinking together.

𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 During the exhibition there will be two writing gatherings on site: on the 16th and 23rd of October from 15 to 18h. We will work in groups taking approaches from other disciplines such as cartographies, drawings and listening. We will practice collaborative thinking through questions and poems. Each writing gathering works as a unit, attending both days is not mandatory. No previous experience is required and each participant is invited to write in the language in which they feel most comfortable with. Come and join us!

To register the writing gatherings, please kindly send us an email ([email protected]) or DM via Instagram.

Our Story
