30 years ago I met a man at a very dark point in my life, I was literally at the end. I thought that 5 years before that was my lowest point, I had no idea that it was going to get worse when I stopped drinking, but it did. I was in my house my girlfriend was out and I took the shotgun out of the closet. I stuck it in my mouth and propped it between my legs. I put my finger on the trigger and just before I squeezed a voice came into my head that said, “but you never really tried to find a solution!”
That was to be the best day of my life, shortly after that I met Ben Wilson and it was he who gave me a solution. The solution was service and self sacrifice, coupled with rigorous self searching. He set me on a course that was to permanently change the meaning of my life. I threw myself into the work he directed me to do and everything began to change.
I owe that man a debt I can never repay but I try everyday to help others to the solution he gave me.
Yesterday that man died. But he left with me a blueprint for living that continues to help me and hopefully others. I am eternally grateful for the 30 years of love and service that I received from Ben. He lives on in my heart and the hearts of the others I’ve been able to help and that they have in turn helped. Thank you Ben your life was a prayer and your example a wall. My heartfelt sympathy to all who have loved him, it’s a loss only so much as we let his example fade and not continue to practice these principles.
