An early Christmas present to ourselves 🎄

We’ve just had our two Studer C37 machines completely restored - ready to serve us for another 60 years.

These two beauties are like new and, according to our technician, sound just as good - if not better - than any A80. The C37 is considered one of the most legendary tape machines in history - not least - because it’s the little sister of the J37, famously used by the Beatles.
With its tube amplifiers, it sounds absolutely incredible.
We can’t wait to record you on these machines in the coming year.

Congratulations to all winners of the Opus Klassik 2024! We are thrilled to receive the award for our project „Steinberg & BSO: The DG Recordings“.

Giving these legendary recordings new shine has been an honor and a significant responsibility for us, and we are very happy that the project is so warmly embraced.

We developed an innovative signal chain that allowed us to transfer the original multitrack tapes directly to lacquer, bypassing the conventional step of a stereo mixdown on tape.

In today’s digital age, presenting a fully analog recording—one that has already sold millions of copies and represents a benchmark in recording history —is a bold statement.

The success of the Original Source Series underscores the continued demand for authentic, expertly crafted products, made with the utmost care and expertise in sound and technology.

Since our start working with immersive audio in 2018, over 600 projects have been realized at Emil Berliner Studios in Dolby Atmos.
We acted back then as consultants in the improvement of the binaural playback together with Dolby and Universal Music, and have collectively spent over 4000 hours creating for this format.

Our studio is equipped with two 9.1.4 speaker setup calibrated control rooms as well as the latest production and control tools for delivering immersive mixes and masters.

We have developed and optimized workflows to work on full multichannel speaker setup and specialized in the translation between target reproduction formats such as multichannel speaker Dolby Atmos, Apple Spatial Audio and Binaural rendering for headphones.

Consumers can nowadays experience the immersive audio via binaural headphone reproduction, multichannel speaker setup, a Dolby Atmos soundbar or any device compatible with Apple Spatial Audio.

Looking for an ideal recording studio in the center of Berlin?

Emil Berliner Studios is based within walking distance from Potsdamer Platz.
Our studio is built as a room within a room and has been acoustically treated for every kind of sound recording.

With an area of 100m2 and a reverberation time of 0,42s it is perfect for projects ranging from speech, soloists and different kinds of ensembles.

All of our four control rooms are connected to the studio and it offers the possibility for high end digital recordings as well as purely analogue recordings on tape or vinyl.

Happy Birthday Emil!

"He had the great vision that phonography contained the elements of a mass media. Being too intelligent to reinvent what already existed, he took a closer look at what was out there and, with diligence and skill, developed all the missing links in order to obtain a coherent system. [...] yes, he even thought about artist licences and copyright. Thus, even our present-day record still contains all the basic elements of the Berliner principle - Berliner is therefore rightfully considered the actual father of practical phonography, notwithstanding Edison's undisputed right of being the first."
- Dr. Hans-Werner Steinhausen, Geschäftsführer der Deutschen Grammophon Gesellschaft, April 1977

---

- Dr. Hans-Werner Steinhausen, managing director at Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft, April 1977
