UTMT ART EXHIBITIONS

Engaging with the local and the global community of versatile artists and designers, Under the Mango Tree stays committed to the timeless trends of art and design through our art exhibitions in a wide range of disciplines such as art, photography and design. Combining a variety of artisitc influences together along with international literature and music, we regularly assert

on creativity as a continous process of learning and cultural exchange. Experimenting beyond the art + design exhibitions, we develop workshops and seminars that also serve as a platform for exchanging, fostering and enriching the creative process through special events. UTMT SHOP

Since 2011, the art gallery also established its own UTMT SHOP. Specializing in organic and natural textiles from India, we continuously serve two purposes with this engagement: preservation and sustainability for artisans in the textile industry in India. The striking selection of self designed, handwoven, handprinted or handembroidered shawls as well as the handpicked, handmade books, all from India, is what we proudly present at Under the Mango Tree Shop. And we are not only thrilled about the exposure for our artisans from India, but also to be able to support this cause with our performance.

WHAT REMAINS IN PLACE
Pegah Keshmirshekan .keshmir
Exhibition: 19.06.26- 02.08.26

Gallery Under The Mango Tree is proud to present WHAT REMAINS IN PLACE, the second solo exhibition of Tehran born, London and Berlin living artist Pegah Keshmirshekan (*1996). Building on the themes of her first exhibition Imaginary Homeland,
Keshmirshekan continues her engagement with displacement, memory, diasporic identity and issues related to ecology in a new body of textile-based works.

While her earlier works consisted primarily of paintings functioning as contemporary
interpretations of 17th-century Dutch still lifes, engaging with cultural remnants from
“elsewhere” and the circulation of floral imagery within Western pictorial traditions,
WHAT REMAINS IN PLACE marks a significant shift within her practice. In turning towards textile,
fragmentation and processuality, Keshmirshekan moves away for the first time from the visual language of the exoticised floral image itself.

SOUNDS CONCERT I Moroccon Songs
Amine Mesnaoui

*Moroccan Songs* is the current solo program by Moroccan-Berlin-based pianist Amine Mesnaoui.
Drawing upon traditional Moroccan melodies, Andalusian influences, and songs from the early
20th century, Mesnaoui develops a personal musical language for solo piano—minimalist, atmospheric,
and characterized by great rhythmic subtlety. The music navigates the interplay between memory,
variation, and improvisation. Through repetition, use of space, and harmonic layering, intense musical
miniatures emerge—pieces imbued with a quiet tension and poetic depth.

The program has been presented at various venues and festivals, including Piano City Milano,
events in Istanbul and Palermo, and the Toca’m Piano Festival in Spain.

Solo Exhibition
God in small things

till 29.05.2026

The simple, minimalist and contemporary ceramics are the perfect expression for the subtle aesthetic;
an aesthetic that offers the eye a sense of order and inner peace, clearing a space where the presence of god can be felt.

( This text was written originally by a british historian William Dalrymple- for the Iranian ceramics; it meets very well with the works of Rani).

CHANGE OF SCHEDULE & PRICE

We wish to recognise the economic reality at the moment and have decided to give you all a possibility to express through creative writing.

On 2 consecutive Sundays, 24.05 and 31.05.26, with reduced rates of just 60 € total, we invite you to join the workshop with Gurmeet Singh, a British, working-class writer of color based in Berlin. His short fiction and essays have appeared in Sand, Sinn und Form, 3am Magazine, and elsewhere. The story featured in this edition of New England Review was shortlisted for the 2022 Bridport short story prize.

Introduction to Creative Writing

At the heart of this course is a simple belief: every writer has something worth saying. Through a combination of readings, craft lessons, and discussions, we explore the essential elements of fiction and nonfiction together: and find the stories that have been waiting to be told.

We’ll share books we love, work through generative exercises to spark new writing, workshop each other’s manuscripts, and develop strategies for revision and editing. Whether you’ve just finished a novel draft or are picking up the pen for the first time, you belong here.

Memory is not a simple record of events but a dynamic process that always transforms
what it dredges up from its depths… - Hans Ulrich Obrist.

The eyes record every detail on passage of life and,
at times, some fragments come up as a form of art- as in Rani’s case.

Each plate in the present exhibition carries an image and a mood. In the same artwork one observes the roughness of the material and then a glazed finesse in the middle. They transport you to other times and space, remind you of the rough walls of the Caves in India, and then the play of simple forms and color on a glazed section in the middle, which the artist suggests is inspired by the south Indian tradition of Kolams- a connection owed to her paternal heritage, indicating to slow down.

It is not the geometry of Kolams that intrigued her, but rather the repetitive, meditative process of creation and the ephemerality of the works due to their exposure to rain, wind, birds, and insects. It is this co-creative process of human and non-human actors that serves as an allegory for the necessity of united care.

VERNISSAGE
26.03.26
Exhibition
27.03.26 - 29.05.26
Artist is present.

Gallery Under The Mango Tree is proud to present the works of Berlin-based artist Rani Le Prince (*1966, Hamburg), in the 9th solo show of her career. Titled “God in Small Things,” the exhibition explores Rani’s talent in shifting the viewer’s eye to the seemingly mundane and overlooked small things in life, reminding us of an entangled multispecies existence and the need for kinship with our environment.

Rani’s artistic expression departs from the experience of watching South Indian women making Kolams – intricate floor patterns usually made with rice flour, symbolizing auspiciousness and harmony with nature, produced as daily rituals in front of household gates or during festive seasons on the streets – in the South Indian city of Puducherry, a connection owed to her paternal heritage. It is not the geometry that intrigued her, but rather the repetitive, meditative process of creation and the ephemerality of the works due to their exposure to rain, wind, birds, and insects. It is this co-creative process of human and non-human actors that serves as an allegory for the necessity of united care.

Rani Le Prince (*1966) is an established artist with a broad career in artistic production, activism, and creative direction. She studied Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, and Media Art at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier (1985–1986, FR) and the Hochschule für Künste Bremen (1992–1999, DE). Between her studies, she completed her vocational training as a ceramist and has exhibited around Europe, primarily in Germany, France, and Spain.
