SOLO is taking place in the front windows of businesses that are temporarily shut down, investigating and archiving the impact of the pandemic on art and culture. The exhibition series "SOLO Markt" will take place on August 9, 13, and 14, 2021 at various weekly markets in Berlin. Market stalls and self-constructed stands will be transformed into mobile, temporary spaces for performances and instal
lations integrated into everyday events. We investigate spaces of action in the commercial realm: artistic positions from different disciplines interact with market-based systems and the constraints of self-marketing. By interweaving a temporary, traveling outdoor exhibition with the nomadic cosmos of the market and integrating art into the bustling system of traders and buyers, we enter into dialogue with the broader public. We get to question the commercial value of goods, people, and actions. Moving to the outdoor space allows for performances that have lost their venues due to the pandemic. By integrating artistic positions into the hustle and bustle of the markets, we also engage with a casual audience that may not often find their way to contemporary art and may now experience it here in passing.
