About
The work explores the theme of shame. On the one hand it is a direct reference to me aner the Fa (and Rodin’s sculpture), and on the other hand it is an allusion to the images of the movie “The
Night Porter” by Liliana Cavani. One of the basic questions is: Why does man have this feeling? Why does the most natural thing he has - his body - evoke such emotions. Shame makes you speechless.”

Meet our new Artist - SANTO

Santo, formerly known as Carla Susanto, is an Indonesian-born, Canadian-American abstract painter residing in Berlin. Growing up during Indonesia's challenging Suharto regime, Santo took the opportunity to leave the country with an art scholarship to the Art Center College of Design in California, USA.

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Santo's artistic career has been filled with accomplishments. Her work has been featured at renowned events such as the Toronto International Film Festival, Bologna Children Book Festival, Nuit Blanche, Kirkus Archive! magazine, and AIGA exhibitions. This exposure has earned her widespread recognition from both audiences and critics, as well as commercial clients and collectors.

Santo finds joy in living in diverse, cosmopolitan cities and embracing different cultures. Rather than being a mere tourist, she chooses to immerse herself in the city and its way of life for several years through a philosophy of slow travel.

Haze Gallery is proud to present ANNA BRESOLI at the “BODY ALCHEMY” exhibition!

Biography

"Anna Bresoli, born in Lleida, Spain in 1979, discovered her love for photography early in life when her father entrusted her with his Zenit at the age of 10. Mastering both analog and digital techniques, she pursued a degree in Image and Sound, laying the groundwork for her professional journey.

Starting as a press photographer and later collaborating with the Efe agency in New York, Anna developed her distinctive style. A pivotal move to Berlin marked a significant milestone when the acclaimed Projecteria gallery recognized Anna's talent, leading to exhibitions at prominent international fairs.

Today, based in Berlin, Anna Bresoli continues to innovate and create captivating projects, showcasing her unique artistic vision to audiences worldwide."

ARTIST STATEMENT

"My artistic vision centers around the fusion of nudity and the captivating allure of shadows. Crafting scenes that are both gloomy yet charged with magnetic energy is my passion—a way to construct worlds within frames, where subjects and settings collide, evoking emotions and curiosity.
Shadows, more than mere absence of light, are silent storytellers that add depth and poetic beauty to my work. They hint at unseen emotions and stories, weaving narratives alongside my subjects.
Exploring the n**e form in contrasting landscapes, urban or natural, is deliberate. It celebrates the human body's beauty juxtaposed against complex surroundings, sparking conversations about our connection to the environments we inhabit.
Within the realm of shadows lies not just melancholy but a canvas of opportunity—an uncharted space where one can reimagine, redefine, and embark on new journeys. They symbolize untapped potential and serve as gateways to personal growth, creativity, and unexplored possibilities.
Shadows invite us to step beyond the known and discover hidden potentials waiting to be brought into the light."

Haze.Gallery is delighted to show art from .b.klaus at the “BODY ALCHEMY” exhibition!!

“In my art I mainly deal with the human body and its representation. The last series of paintings show offensive motifs that communicate with the viewer through expressive body language. I 'paint' with a biro on large-format canvases, often using charcoal, ink or pigment powder to create depth. Coffee is also an important element in my paintings. Coffee creates a beautiful pictorial atmosphere, somehow crafted, vintage.
I work and live  Bielefeld. I cooperate with the gallery Kunsthaus Uerpmann – traditional art gallery for figurative painting in bielefeld and sylt. I also work with Galerie 040 in Hamburg, and Meine.Art.Galerie in Hameln.

Statement

A person believes that their body belongs to them by birthright. Moreover, most are sure that their body is subject.
However, the body exhibits some properties that cannot be controlled by the human will and mind. It has, besides morphology, its own language, semantics and semiotics, which often diverge from the personality of the owner of this body.
The body as an object separate from the individual, with rational and irrational properties, and the abstractness of its existence are the themes I explore with the camera.

Come and see more of his works at the exhibition on the 15th of December!

ABOUT

Engaging in a multidisciplinary approach to her work, Celina Klohk pursues ideas around phenomenology, subjectivity and unique nature of modern day anxieties. Personal memories, imagination and the ominous presence of cyber-culture come together in an iterative process to re-create mundane moments, amplifying these specific experiences and allowing them to develop into new fictional narratives. Moments of solitude contrast busy group gatherings, introspection contrasts a forgotten self.

Celina lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

Artist

We are happy to share that Jingwen is participating in the “BODY ALCHEMY” group exhibition in Berlin!

About Jingwen Yao

Born 1990 in Beijing, China.

Working and living in Berlin, Germany since 2020.

My artistic practice is driven by a desire to address pressing social issues and to inspire actions that promote positive social impacts. My recent works focus on two primary topics: environmental crises and gender challenges.

When exploring environmental themes, I strive to portray the regenerative power of nature while reflecting on overconsumption issues. My paintings often feature man-made objects that have been abandoned or neglected and eventually overtaken by nature. Endangered pollinators are another focal point of my art and research, aiming to raise awareness about the global decline of pollinators and their vital role in our food system.

In my gender-themed portraiture, I delve into the contrasting perspectives of the male gaze and the female gaze. While the male gaze still dominates throughout art history and the present media, I aim to incorporate authentic narratives from the female perspective. By placing a man in a traditionally female position, I reverse the roles of the artist and the subject, allowing viewers to reflect on the power dynamics of the "gaze" and the societal constructs that shape our understanding of gender.

I work primarly with acrylic, watercolour, and ink as they provide immediate results and allow me to capture every fleeting feeling of the moment with expressive brushwork and vibrant colors. I occasionally integrate mirrors into my works, creating an immersive and reflective experience for viewers. Through my art, I aim to captivate viewers, evoke emotions and draw attention to the issues that deeply concern me.

Emilia Jechna | .jechna

ABOUT

Emilia Jechna (born in 1994) is a Polish paintress and set designer, holding a Master’s degree in
Painting (Academy of Fine Arts in Breslau) and Bachelor degree in Art Therapy. She attended Art Residency at Somos Art and opened her first solo show in Germany, „What Narcissus Saw” (April 2023), after moving to Berlin
in 2021. For the past year she was working at Recom Art in Berlin, learning about the processes of photography development and printmaking, observing works from the best German photographers and learning about the art
scene here and abroad.

Today, artist’s primary mode of inspiration is drawn from using her body as an artistic tool. Each of
her works centers around first imprinting various parts of her body onto the canvas, inverting Yves Klein’s use of women as a brush, a tool, into a gesture of autonomy and agency.

She crafts a distinctive artistic narrative from there, constructing otherworldly abstracted scenes. Executed primarily on black canvas, Emilia’s dream-like pieces are created through instinct, constantly conversing with the
work as it comes to be: “When I paint, my silhouette becomes a part of my creation, allowing me to make it into anything I want to.”

Emilia rejects traditional perceptions of the female body and creates her works from a position of agency, constructing her own empowered version of the myth, as she includes herself into each story both physically and conceptually. Through a literal embedding of herself into each piece, Emilia navigates her psyche
before building upon her imprints and creating a new narrative.

♥️ if you like Emilia’s work! Artist will be present at the exhibition!

Introducing our new artist Julia Shanaytsa

In the midst of today's scattered attention and a society defined by possessions, artist Julia Shanaytsa draws inspiration from this fragmentation and change. Exploring the human tendency to define oneself through consumer objects, she transforms these fragments into key elements in her art. In a parallel to Renaissance portraits, where objects held specific meanings, Julia sees today's possessions as attributes characterizing us in our ever-evolving reality.

Her work delves into attributions and objects as symbols of contemporary existence. Despite the impermanence and obsolescence of these items in the complex modern system, Julia finds beauty in the fluidity of change. The artist's creativity emerges from capturing moments within this dynamic flow, turning confusion into a source of artistic expression.
