A week ago we presented 20% of WINDWALL as part of a work-in-progress event accompanied by sound actions and concerts in East Side Gallery. In the meantime the harmonica collecting process goes on for a little more in order to complete our mission to build and install the 6x4 meter sound sculpture in 2022.

The first step after a long preparation process towards building WINDWALL.
Fantastic crew, outstanding artists, curious and supportive audience, perfect weather, great location, a lot of noise, but also some melodies, full moon and magic in the air. Here comes a flash from yesterday's work-in-progress event, WINDWALL 0.2 | THE PILOT EVENT until we get back with a more decent material.

In 16 hours we present 20% of the Windwall as part of the WINDWALL 0.2 | THE PILOT EVENT.
Line-up:
17:30 Andrea Parkins
19:00 QED Sounds with Didi Kern / Philipp Quehenberger
20:30 Csaba Gál Boogie & Tamás Szabó
We will activate this big chunk of the sound sculpture three times and listen to the sound of it in between played by the wind (artificial if needed).
Here goes a big UP to our precious group of sound artists who worked incredibly hard to build WINDWALL 0.2 and will perform at the event.

We are speechless! This is a unique movement and reflects all what WINDWALL is about.
39 hungarian harmonica players contributed to the collection of 727 harmonica reed-plates that will cover 1/7 of all the reed-plates on the sound sculpture.
I big UP to Tamás Szabó who organised the massive collecting action and all harmonica players that were ready let their harmonicas go for this cause.
Some players offered hundred reed plates, others were ready to donate the one they bought as a child and took care of for several decades. How many stories will these reed-plates tell us once they are on the WINDWALL. It is absolutely touching. Now we have a total of 3357 reed plates. 843 to GOOO!

Big thanx to the 39 Hungarian contributors: Ákos Angyal, János Baranyai, Csaba Beke, Csaba Besenyei, Mr Bernaat, József Bernát, K.C. Brown, Csicsák György Balázs, Balázs Fórizs, Bence Csíkszentmihályi, Laszlo Csizy, Zoltán Fegyver, Ferenc Engler, Mihály Horváth, Tamás Hrabovszky, Allen Karginov, János Korényi, Zombor Kovacs, Ottó Kulcsár, Andor Jamboreeguru Oláh, Marcell Juhász, Wojciech Młynarczyk, Nándor Öveges, Attila Lengyel, Papp Liza Ildikó, Prekop Győző, Matt Pribojszki, Zoltai György Zozó, Tamás Szabó, Huba Szalay, Zsigmond Szert, Takács Attila Kistaki, Gergely Szőke, Teddy Harpo, Gábor Tukora, Zoltán Sebők, István Bernáth, Márton Rabi, János Gordos

On the Windwall everyone's harp has a story and every single contributor is equally appreciated. However, it would be difficult to avoid emphasising how much we are honoured when we receive packages from legendary players of this tiny instrument. Thank you for this round PT Gazell, Cathal Johnny Johnson, Jef Funk, Kev Bishop, Andy Ross-Gower! With your support we are seriously getting there.

Please welcome Italia and USA on Windwall!
We received the first package from the oversees, which means worldwide shipping works. No more reason to hide your reed-plates ;) Thank you Andrea, Gianluca and David from Georgia!

Either we receive loads of harmonicas that someone collected during a life-time, or we are given a single harp that was treated as a treasure with lots of love throughout the years, the gesture is in both cases tremendously appreciated...and we become emotional. Thank you Chris the cat, Dave and Tara!

Let's make it begin!
We are so glad that many of you contacted us from different parts of the world either with the intention of sending harmonicas/reed plates or just supporting words for the Windwall project.
We received the first big package of harmonica reed plates by post. Here goes a big-up for Lars Seifert and Bertram Becher from Seydel Harmonicas who sent us 21 Kgs of waste reed plates
We send a huge THANX to Zombor Kovacs who actually advanced us the first box of broken Hering Harmonicas and Hohner harmonicas and reed plates a few months ago in person.
In the meanwhile other packages are also on the way.
Stay "de-tuned" with our process of collecting broken reeds! ;)

dear folks,

We created this page to provide a platform for questions, connect easier, make the logistics smoother and give you constant updates about the process of building WINDWALL.

Once you are here, you probably all know that we aim to build a sound statue of broken harmonicas right next to the former Berlin Wall, but this wall intends to connect people instead of separating them. WINDWALL will be played by the wind and of course will make the sounds of harmony and freedom...something that this tiny instrument, the harmonica also represents to most of the harp players.

For this we invite you all to send us your unused/broken harmonicas so that we build WINDWALL together through a world-wide collective process. In return for your support we cover your postal expenses, engrave your names on the sound statue and give a little personalized surprise.
The logistics is quite a complex procedure since we are accepting harmonicas from all over the world, but together with DHL we are trying to find the smoothest solution. We kindly ask you to let us know if you are ready to join and send us harmonicas/reed-plates as soon as you can. Then it might take a little time to organise the shipments, cause it is really unpredictable to see who will donate us.

We are truly excited about this adventure and very much looking forward to building WINDWALL together.

We hope to see you all on board!

windy wishes,

virág, karoline and vazul
