Martina Kügler is currently on view in the group show 'In Between' curated by Sonia González and Pola van den Hövel at Villa Schöningen, Potsdam, through January 15, 2023.

Martina Kügler (1945 Schreiberhau, Silesia – 2017 Frankfurt am Main) was a visual artist and writer whose work heavily draws from the artist's lifelong experience with schizophrenia. Kügler graduated in 1972 from Städelschule Frankfurt and showed in Harald Szeemann's epochal exhibition 'Junggesellenmaschinen / Les Machines Célibataires' (1975-77).

In the framework of the exhibition 'In Between', German actor Kirsten Schlüter will read poems from Kügler's book 'Wortplanzungen' on Friday, November 25, 2022, 6–9 pm, as part of the 1st SALON at Villa Schöningen, a new event series at the museum. (Reading in German language.)

We are excited to see you there!

Lauren Coullard is participating in the group show 'Rêveries‘, curated by Judicaël Lavrador, at Domaine Pommery, the historic site of French champagne house Pommery in Reims, France — extended until January 15, 2023.

In French daily newspaper L'Express Letizia Dannery writes:

"The Pompadour Cellar, another of Pommery's jewels, also has its share of discoveries selected by curators Catherine Delot and Judicaël Lavrador.  A few masterpieces from the past, on loan from the Musée des Beaux-Arts Reims echo the 'Rêveries', such as Corot's 'La Liseuse sur la rive boisée' (between 1865 and 1870) or the sublime 'Psyché évanouie by Housez' (1870). Nearby, Lauren Coullard's paintings, inspired by tapestries and illuminations of the Middle Ages, are complex compositions where planes intermingle and lines disintegrate, as in Sorcerer Target', populated by phantasmagorical creatures that are half-human, half-animal creatures."

Hans Platschek was born in 1923 in Berlin to a jewish mother and emigrated in 1939 to Uruguay. In 1951 he participated in the 1st São Paulo Biennial. In 1953 he returned to Europe; in Paris he met Max Ernst and Raoul Hausmann, Tristan Tzara, Hans Arp and Asger Jorn. From 1955 to 1963 he lived in Munich where members of the art group SPUR introduced Platschek to Informel and the works of the Cobra group. Platschek participated in the XXIX Venice Biennale in 1958 and in documenta II in Kassel in 1959. In 1963 he became a guest lecturer at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm, moved to Rome and London and finally settled in Hamburg where he lived until his death in 2000. Hans Platschek was married to writer Gisela Elsner from 1967 to 1976.

18/10/2022

Mountains is happy to invite you to the finissage of the two current shows 'OSMAR OSTEN with works by Hans Platschek' and 'Prehistoric Sunset' by Maximilian Rödel on Saturday 22 October, 4 – 6 PM. Both artists will be present. 🥂

After having exhibited earlier this year in the group show 'Tagesschau, invited by Eric Meier', Chemnitz-based artist Osmar Osten (*1959) is showing a suite of new paintings that reveal the artist's recent occupation with the use and aesthetics of acrylic and spray paint. The exhibition includes three historic works from the 1950s and 60s by Hans Platschek, creating a link to Osten's work who in 2022 was awarded with the renowned 'Hans Platschek Preis für Kunst und Schrift' for his longstanding and unique activity in the field of working with art and language in two different German systems, namely the GDR and reunified Germany.

'Prehistoric Sunset' is a show in Mountains RLP that can be seen through the gallery's window facing Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and the Volksbühne theatre. It shows an installation of 'Solaris', a new chromatic large-scale painting by Berlin-based artist Maximilian Rödel (*1984) that hints to the topic of exoplanets and putting it into dialogue with a public space strongly associated with sociopolitical histories.

Apart from the finissage on Saturday, the exhibitions can be visited during the regular opening hours Wed - Sat, 1 – 7 PM.
