AnalogDream is an artist collective born out of the increasingly technological and decreasingly fixed, binary world that we, as a society, are constantly creating for ourselves. We operate at the intersection of contemporary art and engineering, focussing our diverse range of skills and expertise on exploring how both fields can mutually enhance the capabilities of the other. Bringing together painters, coders, dancers, engineers, audio artists and filmmakers to pose a myriad of urgent questions through both the artwork we produce and the means by which we produce it.

While the Covid-19 Pandemic has brought great tragedy into the world, it has also been an opportunity for development and growth; we humans learned new ways of thinking and working together. Here at AnalogDream, a studio for experimental artistic practice and installations which conjoins art with technology, we want to continue developing ways to bridge the gap between the microcosm within the macrocosm. Using the potential of video conferencing services, live streaming, etc, we want to be able to give local gallery exhibitions global viewers. In so doing one keeps travel expenses down, while allowing an intimate performance space an opening to communicate with the world.
The purpose of our collaborative efforts is to show that with an open mind and through the united talents of the collective, one can break norms. Breaking norms in the sense of working together, across fields that normally are not mixed. While Jonathan Apelbaum was the founder of AnalogDream, we have no set leader as a collective. Our main goal is to provide a platform for the individuals taking part in AnalogDream to develop their own visions with creative freedom. It is with this freedom of the dreaming individual that the cohesive artwork of the collective can be accomplished. Here Art acts as a common language allowing the individuals, through the union of their skills, to create something greater. This is a great unifier bringing together dancers and engineers, genders and backgrounds. Our studio realizes its members are just humans with different learning methods and development, but together we speak with the same voice. It’s this message that we bring to our audience and with it hope to challenge the dominating viewpoints and closed spaces in the world, by offering in their place an open compassionate space. We want the public to see that creating a common artwork is about respecting each other and that this value transcends a work ethos to become a modus operandi.
Our presentation will take the values and ethics created in the studio and bring them to life. We have created a common language which is visual and embodied.

Apesenteur numéro un.
Please give some feedback about that work. It’s an artwork mixing oil painting on one side and gold leaves on the other side.
I have been working on this at this for more than one year. I can’t tell if it’s an installation, a painting or sculpture.

Hégémonie féminine. Gender is a construct, we become woman as much we become man, religion forced the society to see us as a natural duality, centuries of oppression have been going on, showing all the people who are not part of these categories as abnormal. Refusing to be part of the duality is an everyday fight and reflection, because our entire society has been sculpted for this fictive binary model.

SOUND ON THIS IS AN AUDIO-VISUAL INSTALLATION

When every part of our lives is productised and weaponized by capitalism, where can we get time and space for ourselves? Where are we allowed to lose control? Sleep is the only uncharted territory left.

And it’s not always a safe space- in sleep there are dreams, there’s trauma, there’s the unconscious.

This installation explores the radical act of sleeping. This installation speaks about the dream world. The dream is our last personal space, free of earthly desires, an ephemeral utopia, that fades away before it can be truly known.

Our cognitive paintings interact and create sound and visual interactions with the public. In the installation “the sleepers”, as soon as the public start to sleep, the dream starts, when the people wake up, our artworks sense it and the dream will stop. At every second, the cognitive paintings are adapting themself to the movement and the person, so every dream is unique. This a preview of our future installation at the coming up in April 2020 for the .
