i“Beauty is accessory” is one of the instructions at the beginning of the fourth movement of Paul Hindemith’s Sonata for solo viola Op. 25 No. 1.
�This could just as easily have come from Dore Hoyer, expressionist choreographer and author of the dance cycle “Afectos Humanos,” with which Pol Pi has been working for the past twelve years. Both works consist of five short, expressive solos and were written under the pressure of suffering in totalitarian regimes. Using letters from both artists, Pol Pi develops a dialog between their voices and the political situation in Brazil under Bolsonaro. Words, music and movement combine to form an intimate, quasi political trio.

Where is your “safe place”? This work explores the Japanese concept of kokoro no yoridokoro—a place of grounding or return—through the relationship between body, space, and sound, asking what it means to exist. For me, it is a place where I can be as I am, without holding anything back.
YORIDOKORO – Silent Anchor emerges from a paradox I have felt throughout my career: that the moment I am performing on stage may also be when I feel most myself—perhaps when I am least performing.

This work follows my previous piece fish ái Lens in collaboration with Shintaro Oue, and becomes my second autobiographical work. This time, I turn toward what I have not wanted to speak about—sensations and memories I have left unspoken.
Together with composer and sound artist Reiko Yamada, I explore how space, distance, stillness, and being observed shape emotional and physical states, within a shared environment between performer and audience.

Den Titel „an egg“ habe ich, Emmanuelle Bernard, diesem Programm gegeben. Er gefällt mir, weil man in seiner Verbindung zum Konzert viele passende Bedeutungen finden kann, aber auch eine gewisse Absurdität – die mir sehr gut gefällt. Ist es ein Spiel? Nicht nur. Anrufe von verschiedenen Orten, Situationen, in denen niemand anruft, ein Treffpunkt, ein Rendezvous – all das könnte es sein!
Dies ist das 9. Konzert der Konzertreihe „On the Road“. Die Geigerin Emmanuelle Bernard, die diese Reihe vor drei Jahren ins Leben gerufen und kuratiert hat, feiert nun das Ende eines Zyklus voller Spontaneität, Nachdenklichkeit, Hingabe und Fantasie durch Musik.

The dance production is a playful, interactive and virtuosic exploration of the theme of consent. It begins as a feast of relentless positivity, expressed through dance. Four exuberant dancers use their whole bodies and every ounce of their energy to enact radical affirmation — enthusiastic, freely given and ongoing, free of ambivalence or uncertainty, virtuosic and spectacular. They perform affirmation towards themselves, each other, and directly towards members of the audience. Their enthusiasm is contagious: there is joyful excitement (and a bit of absurdity) in releasing a chain reaction of positivity, in saying yes, yes and even more yes at every opportunity.

And then comes no. Rules and boundaries, self-respect and self-care — all these require the clarity of the occasional (or not-so-occasional) no. Some people (and some cultures) find the word extraordinarily difficult to say out loud. So it’s a helpful exercise to practice saying no, expressing no with one’s body, and indeed staging an entire scene based on negation. No, no, and again no.

After that, things get more complicated. Between the black-and-white clarity of yes and no spreads a grey sea of ambiguity, characterized by phrases such as I don’t know, maybe, yes-but, yes-and-no (“jein”) and hmm. When these alternatives are spoken they're often accompanied by an almost squiggly gesture, a three-dimensional attempt to evoke the complexity of a situation that doesn’t fit into a dichotomous choice. In fact, we believe that dance movement is particularly suited to expressing and negotiating many of these intermediate states.

Wo ist dein „sicherer Ort“? Diese Arbeit erforscht das japanische Konzept kokoro no yoridokoro, ein Ort des Innehaltens oder der Rückkehr, durch die Beziehung von Körper, Raum und Klang und fragt, was es bedeutet zu existieren. Für mich ist es ein Ort, an dem ich so sein kann, wie ich bin, ohne etwas zurückzuhalten.

YORIDOKORO – Silent Anchor entsteht aus einem Paradox, das ich im Laufe meiner künstlerischen Laufbahn erfahren habe: dass der Moment, in dem ich auf der Bühne performe, zugleich der Moment sein kann, in dem ich mich am meisten als ich selbst fühle—vielleicht dann, wenn ich am wenigsten performe.

Nach meiner autobiografischen Arbeit fish ái Lens in Kooperation mit Shintaro Oue wendet sich dieses Stück dem zu, worüber ich nicht sprechen wollte—unausgesprochenen Empfindungen und Erinnerungen.
Gemeinsam mit der Komponistin und Soundkünstlerin Reiko Yamada untersuche ich, wie Raum, Distanz, Stille und das beobachtet werden emotionale und körperliche Zustände prägen—innerhalb eines gemeinsamen Raumes zwischen Performer*in und Publikum.

Am Ende führt die Arbeit zu einer Frage: Wo ist mein wahrer sicherer Ort?

Tomi Paasonen has choreographed over 70 pieces worldwide in the last three decades, worked as an artistic director and festival curator, and currently leads his company “Queer Church Of Ballet” in Berlin. Colin Comfort / Gieza Poke from Scotland studied architecture and is a superstar of the Berlin drag scene with over 10 years of experience as a performer, producer, and costume designer.

Cranky Bodies a/company feiert Mary Overlie, die originelle Anarchistin des postmodernen Tanzes, in dem sie ihr legendäres horizontales Labor wiederbeleben, wo sich Tanz, Sound, Kostüm und Skulptur in immer wieder neu entstehenden Zusammenhängen bewegen.

In einer installativen Performance mit neuen transitional sculptures von Michiel Keuper artikulieren Tänzer*innen sechs Viewpoints: Raum, Form, Zeit, Bewegung, Emotion und Narration. Variable Bodenmuster und Räume entstehen, die mit Soli, Duos und Gruppenscores gefüllt werden.

Das interdisziplinäre Ensemble Cranky Bodies a/company ist setzte sich aus Tänzer*innen und Künstler*innen zusammen und arbeitet seit 2014 in unterschiedlichen Konstellationen zusammen.

With THE FREEDOM PICNIC, choreographer Nir de Volff is developing a new collaborative project together with the dancers Medhat Adaabal and Mouafak Aldoabl. After more than ten years of artistic collaboration, during which they explored their diverse backgrounds and perspectives from the Middle East and their experiences of integration in Germany in the performance series “Come as you are”, conveying their vision of trust and hope, they now ask: How can we remain connected in freedom?

Following an introductory performative dance exploration, the audience is invited to explore their own experiences with their breath and body within the safe space of the theatre auditorium. Nir de Volff introduces his BBM (Breathing Bodies Movement) technique; here, the breath is seen as an artistic and purifying tool for practising freedom within and with oneself. Medhat Adaabal and Mouafak Aldoabl invite the audience to join in a group Dabke dance, teaching techniques and movements. Afterwards, the dancers serve homemade and fresh dishes from the Middle East. Eating and dancing together are more than just entertainment; they are a living connection between people. And so the evening flows into a blend of free dancing and collective breathing, to purify the body and foster mutual freedom.
