In "587 Blitze", Berlin-based artist Bob Jones explores self-portraiture through four distinct approaches, using photography in an intense physical process that examines the relationship between body and technology.

This image is the result of ‘Transformation 3’. In complete darkness, the artist took selfies with a smartphone onto large rolls of photographic paper that were exposed in the process. The flash simultaneously created an analogue imprint of her body on the paper and a digital image on the phone, bringing two modes of image-making into being at once. Through this act of radical simultaneity, Bob Jones explores self-multiplication and a sense of disorientation, as the body exists physically on the paper while also being recorded as a digital image at the same time.

Discover all four transformations in "587 Blitze", on view until 11 August.

The exhibition was curated by Marie-Luise Mayer (Exhibitions Manager at Fotografiska Berlin), in collaboration with the artist, and produced in partnership with .berlin and , with the kind cooperation of our photography print partner .

For Bruce Gilden, flash was never just about light. It became a defining element of his unmistakable signature style.

When he began photographing the streets of New York, he needed a way to make one person stand out in the rush of city life. By pairing extreme proximity with direct flash, he created photographs that are impossible to look away from.

Years later, that same harsh flash became central to Bruce Gilden's tightly framed color portraits. Faces fill the frame, revealing character and hardship. Echoing the mug shots that had long fascinated him for their provocative power, these portraits confront the viewer with every wrinkle, scar, expression, and detail laid bare.

Visit his exhibition "Why These?" until 23 August.

Closing this Sunday, 14 June: "The Language of the Soil" by Anna Ehrenstein. 🐜

The exhibition reveals the hidden labor behind artificial intelligence and large digital systems. Interviews with content moderators and digital workers show the negative impact of this work on their lives. They are part of an immersive video installation that combines research with science fiction elements.

There’s still time to experience it before it closes.

Inspired by Anton Corbijn’s iconic images of musicians and cultural figures, we are looking for cover-worthy portraits of artists and creative voices. Capture their spirit and energy in a single image.

For over five decades, Anton Corbijn has shaped the visual language of music and culture with images that cut through the noise and capture what matters. This Open Call celebrates that legacy, focusing on portraits that hold something honest and memorable.

We welcome submissions that feel intimate, unexpected, iconic, raw, or quietly revealing. The setting does not matter. What matters is the subject’s presence in the image.

📸 All lens-based photography accepted (analog or digital). No generative AI.
👉 Submit up to 3 portraits on the Fotografiska Emerging Platform via the link in our bio
📅 Deadline: 30 June 2026, 10:00 CEST

Building a life in the arts can be precarious. Anna Ehrenstein reflects on the importance of finding what truly matters to you, and letting it guide your work.

Her own artistic practice explores labor, technology, and global inequality. Through research, collaboration, and storytelling, she looks at the systems that shape our lives and the people whose work often remains unseen.

See her exhibition "The Language of the Soil", which traces the human labor behind AI and digital platforms, before it closes on 14 June.

The story of Anton Corbijn begins in the quiet corners of a small Dutch island, where he grew up as the son of a vicar. From a young age, his camera became both a tool and a companion, a way to channel his fascination with music and navigate his own shyness.

In his early years, he would sometimes avoid photographing artists who felt too commercially driven or mainstream. Over time, he became more open to working beyond his own musical preferences and found inspiration in artists outside the world he originally gravitated toward.

One example was his collaboration with U2, which developed into a long-lasting and close creative relationship. For four decades, Anton Corbijn has shaped much of the band’s visual identity through promotional imagery and album sleeve photography.

His exhibition, “Corbijn, Anton,” on view until 20 September, revisits his extensive body of work, featuring iconic portraits of music and cultural legends, including U2 and many more.

Three selected artists will receive a prize of €1,500, have their work displayed on the Creator Hub at IFA Berlin 2026, and get featured in a post alongside Volkswagen R, IFA, and Fotografiska Berlin & Emerging.

This Open Call will be curated by a jury of representatives from Volkswagen R Design, IFA Management, and Fotografiska.
