This illustration is a make-over version of the fourth post I had done for this german illustration series! And still, I love this word so much! It’s such a specific word to describe a passing moment in one’s life. Such terms can provide comfort to many people because you know that if there is a word for it, it has happened to many other people before! If you are going through a Kummerspeck right now, no worries, it will all be okay again soon. I am sending you all big warm hugs!
사랑하는 누군가랑 깨지고 나서 마음을 음식으로 달랠때 쓰는 단어에요. 한국어로는 뭘까요?? 이런단어가 있나요? 독어는 참 신기하게 이런 순간까지 표현을 하네요.

Here’s another sneak peek of the German prefix verbs book in collaboration with Emanuel Schuchart from the German is Easy blog! The word abhängen has many different meanings, such as “to depend” or “to take something down(such as laundry)” or “to hang out”. That little guy is depending so much on that rope to not get munched by the hippo! Some other meanings for abhängen such as “to take down laundry” and “hanging out” will also be included in the book.
제가 독일에 처음 왔을때 저의 독어를 굉장히 도와준 선생님이 있어요. 이마누엘이라고, 그분이 저 독어는 쉽다 라는 블로그를 운영하는데요 (거짓말!! 독어는 힘들다!) 그분과 함께 책을 만들고 있답니다. 책 두권 준비중이에요, 여기 헬렌 핸드슈즈 올리는 책 한권, 그리고 이마누엘에랑 작업하는거 한권. 일끝나고 가끔 하려니 결코 쉽진 않네요, 화이팅! ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 아무튼 그 책은 독어가 똑같은 단어가 너무 틀린 의미가 많으니까, 그런 단어들을 그려보고 설명하고 뭐 그런 책입니다. 여기 올리는 일러스트레이션은 abhängen이라는 단어의 의미중에 의존하다라는 의미를 표현하는것이죠. 저 저 쪼고만 캐릭터가 밧줄에 의존하고 있자나유. 그외에도 abhängen의 다른 의미는, 빨래를 내릴때도 쓰이고요, 친구랑 뒹굴뒹굴할때 췰륑 하다는 의미로도 쓰인답니다.

As you might have noticed already, the word pig is very prevalent in the German language. Sometimes, pigs are portrayed as animals that bring you luck, or other times as dirty animals. When food security was still in question, if you owned a pig in your household, it meant you’ll probably do alright. In this case, they are having a mighty good time and making a huge mess. Germans are not the only ones associating pigs with mayhem; as my mom used to tell my brother and me, “You’re rooms look like a pigsty! Clean it up!”. So, here’s to pigs who are having fun, spilling drinks, face planting into a pie, flipping plates off the table! Cheers!
독어를 쓸때는 돼지가 참 많이 언급되드라고용. 추우면, 돼지춥다(saukalt) 라고 하던지,형용사를 강조할때 이렇게 많이 쓰이더라고요. 하지만 이 schweinerei라는 단어는 완전 혼란적인 상황일때 쓰이곤 한답니다. 저희엄마는 항상, 어머!! 이게 돼지우리니?? 방좀 치워라 얘! 라고 하곤 하셨죠. ^^ ㅋㅋㅋㅋ즐거운 주말되세용! Scroll to see the full spread!

Well, it’s grey and rainy today in Berlin, but I’m dreaming of summer, eating ice cream in the sun, blooming summer sprouts(freckles) on mah face! I think this word is soooo cute, and this is the digitized version of my marker painting from before. Also, it’s with custom made helen handshoes header font! 주근깨가 독어로는 여름 새싹이라니, 넘 귀엽죠? 호홋. 오늘 베를린은 비가 주룩주룩 오는데도 여름은 언제오나 기다려 봅니다. 좋은 하루 보내세용, 오늘같은날은 김치전 부쳐 먹고 이불에 돌돌 말려서 넷플릭스나 봐야겠네요.

Women’s Day celebrations came into being in 1911 after German socialist activists Luise Ziets and Clara Zetkin proposed an International Women’s Day at the Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen in 1910.

During N**i Germany, Women’s Day was banned, and Mother's Day was promoted instead since it more closely represented the N**i ideal of women and mothers. Women’s Day celebrations did, however, continue in secret. Individuals could indicate their support by "airing out" red items from windows and clotheslines or laying out illegal leaflets.

After World War II and the end of N**i rule, the ban on Women’s Day celebrations was lifted. In the East, a day of official celebration was reinstated almost as soon as the new German Democratic Republic (GDR) was founded in 1947.
March 8 was designated as a special day for celebrating women and their achievements. It was common for women to receive red carnations, while in the workplace top female employees would be honored by a (usually male) member of the management. Each year, the government awarded a Clara Zetkin Medal to women and organizations who had supported feminist and socialist causes.
The UN has sponsored International Women's Day every year since 1975. From 1996 onwards, they have also designated a special theme for each year's celebrations.
Women’s Day was created to shine a light on women's grievances and promote gender equality, Women’s Day, therefore, continues to be an occasion to recognize these inequalities, and advocate the taking of action to reduce them.

I want to share a story that I still laugh about from time to time. Before corona times when Earthlings used to socialize, this story happened when I was somehow left alone with my friend’s 2 year old daughter. I was met with very confused look 😂Hope you guys are having a Sunday you wished it to be. 🧡There will be a couple more of my German mistake stories coming up. 🍇vs. 🐦ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 긍까.. 이 코로나 시기 전에 옛날 옛적에, 친구네 놀러가서 분주한 아침 준비에, 두살짜리 딸네미랑 둘이만 어쩌다 밥상에 남아서, 독일 아가한테 포도 먹겠냐고 물어볼려고 한것이 어쩌다가 비둘기를 먹을래? 이렇게 되버렸다는.. ㅋㅋㅋ!!! 아가가 참 요상하게 날 쳐다봐서 왜그런가.. 하다가 앗참.. taube는 비둘기지, 앗참!! 그랬다는 이야기. 호홋. 뭐 독어를 배우다 보면 이런 말도 안되는 웃긴 일들이 생기곤 하죠, 그걸 다 기억해야지 배우지. 호홋. 편안한 일요일 되세요~

die Arschgeige means ass 🍑 violin 🎻 (as***le) when literally translated. From my research, I’ve learned that this word is insulting a person as that part of the body that can utter ‘digestive music’. 🎶 🎼 🎵 Noted! ✏️ (Yay! slowly re-doing old pages)

음.. 한국말로 하면 좀 욕같은데, 무기력함을 독어로는 내면의 돼지개 라고 한답니다. 돼지강쥐라고 하면 좀더 귀여운거 같네요. 윽.. 운동해야되는데 하기싫어.. 독어공부 해야되는데 하기 싫을땐 나의 돼지강쥐가 지금 강하다.. 이렇게 말할수 있는 거겠죠. 오늘 일요일을 즐기고 계시길 바랍니다! 안녕~~
