The African Book Festival has formed a book club❣️

Our goal is to read at least one book from each and every country on the African continent, starting in Cameroon.

Our next in-person meeting One More Chapter
📍Sat. 31st October, 3pm

If you want to join, send us a message please.
Our October read is "How beautiful we were" by Imbolo Mbue:

A fearless young woman from a small African village starts a revolution against an American oil company in this sweeping, inspiring novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Behold the Dreamers.

We should have known the end was near. So begins Imbolo Mbue’s powerful second novel.

Set in the fictional African village of Kosawa, it tells of a people living in fear amid environmental degradation.

How Beautiful We Were is a masterful exploration of what happens when the reckless drive for profit, coupled with the ghost of colonialism, comes up against one community’s determination to hold on to its ancestral land and a young woman’s willingness to sacrifice everything for the sake of her people’s freedom.

Let's enjoy some impressions of "Men under Pressure Part II" which happened last weekend Hotel MOA Berlin

First the good news: all panelists behaved (see last picture for proof of bromance) and our audience got inspired with so many more thoughts and ideas.

Now the bad news: the conversation is not over. This fantastic, interesting conversation made it
very clear: we must speak about especially young men, male violence, accountability and a future where role models are more difficult to find.

Thanks a lot to B I S I ALIMI JJ Bola Fikri Anıl Altıntaş for joining us again and for the work you all do. Thank you for the books as well.
Thank you to for moderating.

Celia Parbey is up for a challenge. She took on the task of moderating tomorrow's "Men Under Pressure" panel, a conversation about masculinity.

In May, our guests JJ Bola Fikri Anıl Altıntaş B I S I ALIMI already started to look at modern men, patriarchy and female expectations. They failed to agree and forgot to hold men accountable for their actions.

Now, the conversation continues with a female feminist lead .

Expect deep insights, and a packed house. You won’t want to miss this!

When B I S I ALIMI is part of the African Book Festival, one thing is guaranteed: It’s ALWAYS packed and NEVER boring!

Bisi Alimi is a human rights activist, film producer, and trained actor and whenever he speaks, people turn up. Known worldwide as a bold LGBTQIA+ rights advocate and role model, Bisi has never shied away from standing up for truth.

Back in 2004, when then-President Olusegun Obasanjo claimed on television that homosexuality did not exist in Nigeria, Bisi seized the moment and declared live on air that the President was wrong. That courageous act changed everything, costing him his home and nearly his life—but it also marked him as one of the most vital voices of our time.

And because Bisi still does not shy away from controversy, this year, for the first time, the African Book Festival is being extended on October 2nd!

Recently, taking a radical feminist stance, Bisi sparked intense debate by claiming that cis men fundamentally benefit from patriarchy and can therefore never truly share the lived reality and oppression experienced by women.

Expect raw conversation, deep insights, and a packed house. You won’t want to miss this!

Men Under Pressure - The Conversation Continues

At this year’s African Book Festival Berlin Bisi Alimi was in conversation with JJ Bola and Fikri Anıl Altıntaş on men’s power, privilege and accountability. The room was packed and emotions ran high on stage and in the audience. Obviously, there was a need to extend the conversation.

The guys need to talk and we say: Let them!

Join us to discuss various visions of redefining masculinity Hotel MOA Berlin on 2. October. Moderated by
