𝗧𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗕𝗢𝗫/𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 is a publishing series by the artist cooperative Toolbox, focusing on artistic and intellectual content. The series includes both catalogues and non-fiction works that explore visual art, its processes of making, as well as broader philosophical and humanistic questions. The aim of our publishing activity is to provide artists with the opportunity to present their work as a contextualized and carefully edited whole, in which visual and written thinking support one another.
Earlier this year, TOOLBOX/Books series has published "Veistoksia/Sculptures 2015–2024" by Maija Helasvuo, which presents the artist’s sculptural practice over nearly a decade, as well as "Maalauksia/Paintings" by Juha Sääski, which brings together his key works and opens up the expressive and material dimensions of painting as an art form. In June we'll present our third publication of this year, Mika Karhu's "Änkyttävä maailma / The Stammering World – Essays from 2021–2026". The book brings together Karhu’s recent essayistic work, examining the tension between experience and reality. The texts move across the intersections of art, philosophy, and politics, forming a multidimensional and timely contribution to understanding the present moment.
Together, these publications form a considered whole that documents and articulates Finnish contemporary art and the thinking connected to it. TOOLBOX/Books serves as a platform where artistic practice and critical reflection meet.
