Serial Giggler Report: Case No. 7
We finally obtained a mugshot of Stephen Blaubach. The boys down at booking asked him to look serious for the camera, but he just couldn't manage it. It's not a guilty smirk, and it ain't a nervous grin, either. It’s the smile of a fella who has seen it all.
We asked around but not a single soul could recall a time before Blaubach started joking. It’s like he was simply there when the Universe flipped its sign to "open." At some point, at some illegal open mic, in some backroom of a speakeasy somewhere across Weimar, Prussia, the Holy Roman Empire, or right around the time when he made the first cave paintings, he just materialized. And the public hasn't stopped giggling ever since. The word on the street is he invented the "the joke," but conveniently for his alibi, everyone who laughed is dead.
"Stephen?" said one witness, a flapper who treated my official police questioning like a total waste of breath. "He's made us laugh since forever."
Wednesday. The Agata Bar at The Giggle Factory. He was there. He was probably trespassing there last week, too. And the week before that, and the one before, and the one before that, stretching chronologically backward all the way to the beginning of time.
If you ever spot him on your patrol, try grilling him about his suspected voodoo or magical qualities, and he’ll give you the line: "Magical? I don't know anything about magic, I can only do comedy on a stage and maybe pull a hat out of a rabbit."
