This semester, Constantin Hartenstein is teaching a seminar together with Prof. Jimmy Robert on the topic „Video Performance“. In the block seminar, the participants develop their own performances which will be presented in an exhibition in Berlin February and April, 2021. The seminar reflects on new forms of performance art and its ability to question social categorisations, discourses and contents beyond heteronormativity.
In their first meeting, the group answered the following task through a performative action online: „Describe your current state of mind in one word. What word is stuck in your head these days the most?“ This is the result.
New acquisitions for Filminstitut‘s library and Video Lounge.

While @filmfestlocarno is going on and showing an inspiring selection of films, here is a special recommendation from us: O Bobo by José Álvaro Morais, one of the unique masterpieces of Portuguese cinema. Available online on Mubi.
“It is a kaleidoscope of gestures, words, sounds, mise-en-scène, scene transitions and shot junctions. Everything is operatic in The Jester. But there’s nothing grand about it, because it’s a comic opera. The film’s musicality, which is sensual, swinging and ironic, does not conceal the seriousness of the wounds.”
