Tomorrow! Aquarium is an audiovisual Berlin based duo.
They work with a modular system that allows
communication between sound and video.

Aquarium combines circuit bent video and audio
equipment with traditional synthesizers in order to
produce partially synchronous trippy A/V glitches,
psychedelic drones and quirky beats.

They upcycle vintage music and film equipment and add
CV inputs and new controls like body contacts. Which
both helps avoiding amount of waste and elaborating
the individual characteristics of their work.

The duo consists of video restorer Kathrin Schreier
and noise musician Andreas Stoiber who is commonly
known for constructing the walking, talking AI "Krach
der Roboter" that performed at festivals such as Bent!,
Roboexotica, Circuit Control and Elevate.

Aquarium performed at Berlin Modular Society Spectrum,
re:composed, Sho###Bo###, VJ Open Lab and Music for Cinemas.

Can you hear the Earth breathing?

‘Can you hear the Earth breathing?’ brings to life sustainability cycles and the natural (and un-natural) systems that lie beneath the production and absorption of carbon dioxide. In the 1950s, Charles Keeling started measuring CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere at the Moana Loa Observatory. These measurements showed for the first time how the planet itself is breathing as forests in the Northern hemisphere grow leaves in the Spring absorbing CO2, then release it back into the atmosphere in the Fall when leaves drop off the trees. This project integrates music65, sound art, dance, and sustainability into an artistic performance that communicates the complex systems that are part of climate change, challenges the primacy of human-centred approaches to sustainability, and makes audible (and visible) the Earth’s breath.

The performance includes sonified data representing different elements of the CO2 system, field recordings, and live sounds captured during the performance. Sounds are performed with modular synthesizers, samplers, biofeedback pads connected to plants, FX pedals, and looping feedback. Wireless microphones capture the sound of the dancer’s breath and biofeedback pads send pitch and gates to synthesizers that vary based on the electrical resistance of the dancer’s skin as they move through the performance space. Sound and music shape the dance; the dance shapes the music and sound playing with the “in-betweens” and creating a cohesive whole.

Katharina Bévand is a sound artist based in Berlin. She creates site-specific sound installations, sound sculptures, 3-D sound environments and performs on modular synthesizers. In 2017 she was honored by “bonn hoeren – sonotopia” of the Beethoven Foundation for Arts and Culture Bonn. In 2021 she was part of Goldrausch Project for women artists. She received various grants, among which are the Berlin Senate, Stiftung Kunstfonds or Musikfonds. In 2022 she directed the first sound art oriented artist residency Cráter in La Palma, Canary Islands funded by the GOETHE Institute. She exhibited internationally in Germany, Spain, Egypt, Taiwan, and in the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan in Northern Iraq. Her collaborations oscillate between the fine arts scene and the experimental and electronic music field. This year she is part of Braunschweig Projects.
