When you've been doing comedy in Berlin for a few years, you get used to people recognizing you at desi events.

"Arre Ayush bhai!" "How are the shows going?" "Bhai, I came to your show last month."

Then I opened for Varun Grover.
The confidence with which I asked, "Who here knows me?" was based entirely on previous data. 😂

Turns out I had entered a completely different ecosystem. 😅

A few weeks ago someone in an Indian WhatsApp group randomly asked:

“Do you perform at private events?”

A few calls, one very Indian fee negotiation, and my first-ever comedy invoice later… I found myself taking an overnight train to Krefeld ,a tiny German town for a 40th birthday party gig.

The audience was a mix of Indians + international guests, so I had to figure out: “How do I do English comedy with Indian family sensitivities?” 😭

Luckily I had prepared interactive crowdwork stuff with audience questions in a hat, which honestly saved me.

The rest of the trip felt less like a comedy tour and more like a confused desi backpacker simulation.

Reached at 5am. Nothing open. Spent the whole day surviving on Coke, ci******es, snacks, and bad financial decisions because I had decided not booking a hotel would “save money.”Typical indian.

After the show I wandered around the town half-asleep, accidentally slept on benches, met a random Japanese guy outside the station and ended up discussing anime and Asian culture for hours before finally taking the night train back with severe back pain and very questionable life choices.

Comedy is a very strange profession.

But also… I think I’m open to more private gigs now 😄

comedy continues to put me in situations I genuinely did not see coming.
