✨ Artist Spotlight: Yannis François ✨

During Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2026, Yannis François, baritone, appears as Coralbo in Handel’s Floridante, directed by Max Emanuel Cencic alongside the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra under Markellos Chryssicos.

Born in Guadeloupe, the Franco-Swiss baritone Yannis François first began his artistic career as a dancer before turning to singing. Today, he performs on leading international stages, with recent engagements at the Dutch National Opera, the Barbican Hall London, the Copenhagen Opera Festival, and collaborations with artists such as Barbara Hannigan, Philippe Jaroussky, Jordi Savall, and Leonardo García Alarcón.

Beyond the stage, Yannis is also a respected musicologist and founder of Editions Charybde & Scylla, creating acclaimed album concepts for artists including Jakub Józef Orliński, Philippe Jaroussky, Lea Desandre, Bruno de Sá, and Michael Spyres.
This September, he makes his Bayreuth Baroque debut as Coralbo in Floridante.

On 7 May 2026, the upcoming Bayreuth Baroque was presented at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria in Berlin, an evening celebrating the richness of Baroque opera and the cultural significance of the festival’s new season.

The presentation brought together artistic director and world-renowned countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic, managing director Dr. Clemens Lukas, artistic director Georg Lang, soprano Eva Zalenga, and technical director Kai Fischer, alongside 150 distinguished guests from the worlds of music, culture, and public life.

Special thanks to Dr. Marco Lorenz, Head of the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria in Berlin, and Florian Luderschmid, President of the Government of Upper Franconia, for their warm hospitality and continued support of the arts.
